A grand to spend on Mods

If you had a grand to spend on mods...2002 P5 how would you spend it? I am looking for "go" not "show"

My thoughts:

Injen CAI
Mazdaspeed Catback

I still got money to burn...help

new stereo system...get your car lowered, get 17" rims....

Sir Nuke May-18th-2002 10:27 AM

for starters....get a cat back exhaust, an intake (brand of your choice...personally I like the Injen) and the B&M short shifter.

now all that is going to run you about $800....

with $200 left....get your windows tinted....here in TEXAS you will be glad you did!

then start saving up to lower the car and maybe new rims/tires.

wheels and tires will be show...performance is what I want...
Window tint was the first thing done when I got the car. I am a District Manager and travel to the valley alot....any other adds?

NOS sounds cool...but the warranty is totally void then

inimical... when running nitrous... just like with a turbo or s/c setup... you really need a bigger exhaust than the stock. you're pushing more air in right? where's it gonna escape to? exhaust is a must with nitrous. i agree with joe on what he said. a good cat-back, the AEM or Injen intake, and the b&m, then get your windows tinted. after that, save for some springs. That's the best route to go. :)

I got the exhaust and came to my own conclusion that it was a waste of money, I could've just purchased a high flow muffler (like the racing beat one or something) and would get the same performance, but for half the price... which brings me to my next point...

Actually our exhaust is 2.25" stock, which is also the same diameter piping as the Bosal Cat-back exhaust, so spending $385 is kinda pointless.

Actually, there is only a small section of our exhausts that is anywhere near that. The actual dimension is 2.126 (it's metric). The ID is 2.0 from the #2 cat only back to the muffler connection and then it necks down to 1.9"OD/ 1.75 ID the rest of the way back. The front is also the 1.75" ID from the #1 cat to the #2 cat.

Best way to use up $1000...
- Catback exhaust (any brand) just make sure it is 304-Stainless, 2.25", Mandrel Bent, and that any welds are also done with Sainless steel wire.
- Cold Air Intake .. possibly Injen style, or you could try running it all the way down to the left fog lamp hole like the World Challenge cars.

Then you can think about...
- Mazdaspeed (FS-ZE) cams
- Sticky summer tires
- B&M shifter and upgraded brake/clutch/transmission fluids

The car's handling doesn't need /that/ much work from the factory. Better off to concentrate on improving the intake/exhaust and then work on the motor.

My $0.02. Of course I really don't know anything about cars so YMMV ;)

that is the way i would go if i was to start all over.....with what i have done i need to get some sticky street tires that i can use on the track and on the street........just my .02 cents

$1000? Save another $2800 and get turbo kit.
Intake and exhaust will give you 5-8 whp and make car noisier, not faster. Make your own intake, otherwise don't bother.
OR get set of wider rims with ultra high performance rubber-this will make you faster in corners and cut your braking distance a bit.

Do not even think about nitrous system-unless you have spare engine lying around.
Alex
(PS yeah, I have muffler and intake, but that cost me $250, not $700.)

txzoomr May-19th-2002 09:32 PM

lower it to improve the handling, cus if you just lower it for looks, then your being a total idiot. [/B][/QUOTE]

LOL...no kidd'n I just saw a slammed import (brand name ommitted to prevent a massive flame from some of you) dragg'n the ground leaving sparks ...he thought it was hot...then the tell tell alignment being so far off the front tires are horribly tilted....Hell I bet he cut half the spring off with a blow torch. Ghetto rides...damn what is wrong with people today? How do they pass inspection.
