area51 is supposedly working on a supercharger for the protege....just thought id give u guys some good news :)

will they buid one for the 1,8L?I hope so..

Please confirm my thoughts.I know there is no lag with a s/c,but I feel there is a little less potential than a turbo could give you.
I don't know if it's possible,but if you change the diameter of the pulleys that spin the s/c,you should get more boost??

yes changing a pully will give you more boost in an SC application. MR2 SC owners do it with good results.

You are also correct that an SC has lower potential than a turbo. An SC uses then engines energy to produce boost, a turbo uses energy that is wasted to produce boost, thus the turbo is more efficient and will give you more power potential. The downside to the turbo is lag, however a smaller turbo, especially one with ball bearings and a lightweight centre section, you will likely see full boost at or before 2500 rpm.

Personally I'd prefer an SC for my Protege as I don't realy care about full out performance with that car and would like some extra power all through the rev range.

area51 does not have a website right now...but they are a very reputable company. they've built a lot of quality products, including a supercharger for the is300. the good thing about this company is they put a lot of R&D into their products (30k+ miles before releasing supercharger out for the is300). they are also the shop that built the 7sec sc300 (painted goldish color), i do not know if you all have seen it before. it will be racing at this coming up season.

Rimmer will build a custom kit, but they need a car for R&D. They are located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. If we had a few people willing to buy a kit, they might give us a decent price.

good lord Eric, I've been searching all over for Rimmer's website. Good find! Searching for Rimmer all I could find was IS300 forums.

What price range would you expect for this supercharger (before install)?

area51's supercharger are usually very well priced. their stage1 kit for the is300 will be around 3700 range making 320hp. note that other tuner's stage one with same hp will cost around 5750~8000 for the is300. so expect a very well priced kit with a lot of R&D. also, there site is http://www.area51fab.com/ but it is not up yet. ill keep you guys updated.

Down in the Springs, eh?? Hmm, I might have to check them out a little more closely. I live in Denver, about 45 minutes away from the Springs...
