Good idea .. or bad idea?!

So I'm about to take off for a 4.5 hour trip to Bloomington, IL to pick up my new hood. You guys foresee anything going wrong on this trip :tear:

demoniam September-14th-2007 01:59 PM

ummmm...

pray for dry skies.....and no cops...

KrayzieFox September-14th-2007 02:00 PM

Why no cops? I don't think that's illegal is it?!

demoniam September-14th-2007 02:05 PM

I guess depending on your state... I dont know if the wind force will have any effect on your wiring...but that is the ultimate in engine cooling!

_Kansei_ September-14th-2007 02:08 PM

it's illegal here.

Why is your hood off to go pick up the new one? You can fit the hood in the trunk! get there, swap new hood on, put old faded hood in trunk.

demoniam September-14th-2007 02:12 PM

unless your car is loaded up..Then you need to buy my roofracks!

_Kansei_ September-14th-2007 02:15 PM

^^ no even with the car loaded up it can fit, trust me. I had my current CF hood sitting on top of two weeks of vacation packing, a mountain bike, etc all in the trunk.

I really need to post more of my pictures online, I have no idea what computers those are on :P

KrayzieFox September-14th-2007 02:18 PM

I know the hood can fit in the hatch, but it won't fit in mine. I have the MSP amp/sub rack back there and I'd rather just drive without a hood than have to disconnect and reconnect all that wiring again.

We'll see how it goes I guess, if a cop sees me hopefully he doesn't feel like being a dick about it. I've seen people drive all sorts of cars (without doors, hood, fender, etc.) so I figured it wasn't a big deal.

demoniam September-14th-2007 02:22 PM

what about folding down the rear seats, will that give you enough room?

_Kansei_ September-14th-2007 02:25 PM

It can actually fit totally above the real 'hatch' area.. by that I mean it'll fit high enough that it is completely visible through the windows.

argh argh where are my pics of it! I had a mountain bike, 2 weeks of vacation stuff (not just my stuff, stuff from other family members as well), etc and put the hood on top of it all

KrayzieFox September-14th-2007 02:33 PM

No worries Kansei. I'm gonna go and test my current hood back there and see if it'll fit. If it fits .. we're good to go.

On a side note, I just contacted both Iowa and Illinois State Police HQ and they both said that is NOT illegal for me to drive without it. So either way I think I'll be ok .. as long as nothing goes flying out of my engine bay haha.

_Kansei_ September-14th-2007 02:34 PM

wow.. no wonder you see people driving around with doors missing there! lol

Well I'll be damned. I have no idea why I didn't think of trying to put the hood in there sideways, but it fuckin works!! Thanks Kansei, guess I'll be putting my hood back on after all and taking the safe route.

_Kansei_ September-14th-2007 02:38 PM

UTILITY FTw

KrayzieFox September-14th-2007 02:45 PM

Watchback FTW!!!!! Thanks Kansei, you rock d00d!

demoniam September-14th-2007 02:59 PM

What's happening with the old hood?

_Kansei_ September-14th-2007 03:00 PM

going bye bye I'm guessing. the gelcoat died and it got all faded-like

KrayzieFox September-14th-2007 03:03 PM

^ Yep!! Getting rid of that DGM piece of crap. I really liked their products at first but now that I've had them installed for over a year I see how garbage they are, while being WAY TOO OVERPRICED at the same time.

Well off I go fellas. Wish me luck, and I'll post pics of the new hood tomorrow :)

Hyperion September-14th-2007 03:03 PM

rofl nice, if you keep your tools in the car you can be a transformer

demoniam September-14th-2007 03:04 PM

suck....Well maybe someone can use it if they full-paint it??

drive safe!

overpriced? they're one of the cheaper ones I thought. The ones from CrazyCaker (dunno if that's his name on the other forum but it is on toprotege).. I think they're xcelerated concepts or something like that.. he (Joe/CrazyCaker) gets them clearcoated so that they don't have that issue.

But if you really want quality CF parts for our cars, there is NO other company close to Fiber Images.

yes indeed. fully painted CF hoods are FOR THE WIN anyhow (I'm not biased)

I sold my old CF hood to Tom (of Doc B Motorsports)

hehe there's my old hood!

that hood is the sexxy. you had the actual evo inserts/drain installed too, right?

---What'd you do to piss off Mazdas247, btw... I was starting to miss your posts!

that's the APC hood.. and it doesn't come with any vent inserts.. Tom installed those after he bought the hood from me.

my hood right now is a fiber images evo hood though.. with authentic mitsubishi vent and everything.

Krayzie we expect lots of pictures of the new hood as soon as you get back!! :D

DEm September-15th-2007 02:59 AM

secure the hood with some rope or fasteners ... i don't wanna think what would happen if you need to make a sudden stop, let alone crash... your are ridding with a guillotine on your back seat :s

_Kansei_ September-15th-2007 09:15 AM

Way to go mr 'voice of reason' :P

VERY good point

I've carried hoods in my car 4 or 5 times.. on 4+ hour journeys.. and the thought never even crossed my mind to secure them haha

Haha .. TOO LATE!! The trip's already done and over with and I've made it back alive. I did think of that myself though, so I moved up both the front seats and just wedged the hood behind the headrests. It didn't move at all, but I did have a very uncomfortable grandma-style-hugging-the-steering ride back home. All in all, it wasn't to bad and I actually like the hood a lot more than I thought I would. Here are some piccys for you all..

KrayzieFox September-15th-2007 10:57 AM

And before anyone comments on the left being lifted a bit too much .. I know :D
I need to go out there and mess with the little rubber stop majiggys to make both sides even.

You rang?

Looks nice Krayzie. I think that's the first time I've seen your car from the side. Digging the yellow/black theme!

_Kansei_ September-15th-2007 04:18 PM

^^ kinda like how I've only seen your car from the angle in your sig.. you could totally have a CF hatch and I wouldn't even know lol

JoshP5 September-15th-2007 05:43 PM

Looks nice, one of my buds from carolinamazdas has the same hood on the same color car. He painted his mesh vents yellow to match the car. Pic:

demoniam September-16th-2007 09:58 PM
