Anybody know how much torque the FSZE engine has? It's got close to 170 hp, but what about torque?

130~135lb/ft I can't remember the RPM. It's on this site somewhere. I'm sure I've posted it. I just don't remember in which section.

That seems kind of low. The FS feels like a rather flat torque curve, I'd suspect the FS-ZE wouldn't be peaky.

Where's peak HP on the FS-ZE? If it's at about 6k, then torque is 148 ft-lbs at 6k, and I'd suspect higher before 6k. If the peak HP is at 7k then torque at that point would be about 127.5 ft-lbs.

That's using the HP = TQ x RPM/5250 equation.

FS-ZE peak HP is at 6800 RPM, and peak torque is at 5000 RPM.

Wow, I assumed that with the higher compression, the torque would be better.

According to the Protege FAQ, peak torque on the FS-DE is 135ft-lbs @ 6000RPM and peak HP at 130 @ 6000RPM. Surely the FS-ZE would have better torque than the FS-DE. On the other hand, the 135ft-lbs @ 6K for the FS-DE can't be right, because that would yeild 154HP @ 6k, not 130HP.

Just checked the mazdausa site. . . peak TQ for the FSD 135 @ 4000.

Where did you get that equation? It seems to be a generalization. I don't think that HP/TQ relationship will apply to all cars. It doesn't even take compression into account. You'll find the fs-ze has 10.5:1 compression.

is the equation meant to represent hp at the crank, flywheel, wheels, something else?

I guess it seems reasonable. The '99 civic si makes 111 TQ @ 7000 RPM. According to this equation, the si should make 148hp @ 7000 RPM. The si's peak is 160hp @ 7600 RPM. So, I guess the Si makes 12hp over the last 600 RPM.
