Front end noise in '03 P5
 

Have been hearing a "chunk" rattle noise when starting off (as if someone tapped on the strut tower). Sounds as if this is coming from the front-end, but realize that the sound could be travelling from anywhere on chassis.

Any ideas?

noises like that just have to be heard in person. wish I could help.

WAY too vague...although honestly, expect the Pro to be noisy....they just are...and it could be the infamous rear end "clunk"..done any suspension mods???...but I'd have to hear it

Sorry -- I know it's vague...

No suspension mods. Just did a cross continent trip with heavy load -- suspect that one of the front struts needs attention. Will get it to Mazda next week under warranty. Will also get calipers checked for stickyness problem mentioned here... wondering if I'm hearing the caliper release under load.

Previous car was a 95 Protege ES -- had major issues with suspension clunking at 95K miles. Last year had replaced all tie rods, struts, etc. Took care of clunking for awhile -- but came back as parts wore. Current noise in P5 reminds me of noise in '95.
