found 1 of possibly 3 clanking noises in engine bay
i deffinatley have a dead or to be dead oil pump. but when the pump isn't acting up their is another clanking. terribly loud!!! even before the pump started their was a loud clancking in the motor (internal) near the timing belt.
can anyone help me out please? |
Didnt I tell you before you had oil starvation ??...This just proves my point...However once again a total rebuild is going to cost more than just buying another engine.....I seriously doubt anyone had the same prob unless they seriously abused and neglected the car like the previous owner of yours must have.

are you sure its your engine? could be a segment between your engine and drivetrain/tranny
you turnning Automatic? Hahhah maybe your torqu convert is swirling around like a McD's frosty machine lol joking well I have found one of my sounds, cause its really really cold this morning so went i popped the hood I could see it was coming from one of the belts on the left hand side, probably needs oiling . gonna look into it tomorrow when the temp rises |
Fix
Here is how you fix it..... Turn your radio up louder and keep driving.

no radio
just bought one but i dont have the right connections |
If the oil pump is acting up it will sound better when the oil is cold and has been left to settle for a few hours (read: overnigt) and you overfill by about 3mm over the top mark on the dipstick..
this is the basic test for the erly pumps, I honestly dont know if you will get the SAME problem in the Protege5 or MP3 since they use later engines. The erlyer problem was due to airation of the oil causing HLA colapse.. it made the FS engine sound really bad ! One new oil pump (not a big job) and problem gone ! |

Thank god it was getting so embarasing when you driving ou in the morning or start it after work :) and mazda did the belts for free when I did my water pump and timing belt , with a 15% discount on labour too :) sad thign is, I got a OBX header on the way and Mazda will not touch them :( |

One new oil pump (not a big job) and problem gone ! weird.... when my oil was cold the sound was louder. (i dont think that was the oil pump then) but when it got warmer. the noise got quieter. after a while of driving the oil light goes on and a second clanking starts (that is deffinatley the pump) if anyone wants to know what it sounds like. (make sure your car hasn't been running for at least 4 hours) pop the hood, take the oil cap off and start the car. be sure to turn off the car 5-10 seconds later. thats what i hear when the oil light goes on. im selling my car now because paying insurance for my car, is stupid (with its motor condition) and my minimim pay job wont help buy a motor when flat broke |
