Floor mats won't stay put....

does any one have any idea's on how i can get the floor mats to stay where they are supposed to??

any time some one gets in and out of my car, the mats are always pushed up underneath the front seats, and then the rear mats are all deformed from that.

any help would be great..

TIA

Dermen November-9th-2002 07:22 PM

I have the same problem when I have passengers and I decided that nobody knows how to get in and out of cars. My mat never moves but everybody else who rides in my car screws them up. It was the same way with my last car. If you just lift both your feet up and put them outside the car and then stand up your mat will not move at all. Everybody else I know leaves one foot in the car and pushes with it to get themselves out and it makes the mat move.

My brother's subaru has a peg coming from the floor that hooks onto the drivers side mat, of course that came out of the floor  I'd really be interested in a solution though, it's kind of a universal problem.

Evil Homer MP5 November-9th-2002 08:03 PM

hehe, maybe i'll just take out the rear mats all together..
and have no mats back there..
just leave the ones in the front.

xfimpg November-9th-2002 09:46 PM

I currently have a '99 Maxima and my floor mats don't move due to many small rubbers "spikes" under the mats that provide gripping. I cant comment on how the P5 mats are made, but maybe changing them will reduce your aggravation.

X

PS. Will be trading in the Maxima for a P5 so no one shoot me!

stocker November-9th-2002 09:56 PM

I have the same problem. All my mats move except for the drivers. And it stays put because of the afore mentioned peg. I am beginning to consider supergluing the hook side of some velcro to the bottom of the mats. They have the little rubber spikes too, but they don't work. Honestly, I have even considered putting a small screw in the corner of each one into the carpet.
Stocker.

I did exactly that some time ago to the front passegner mat of my P5. Problem solved. Get the velcro that comes on a roll, and glue a few strips a few inches long at several points on the underside of the mat.

Sir Nuke November-10th-2002 03:32 AM

you can go to wal-mart and you can get the strips of velcro that are about two inches wide...and have an adhesive back to them. it comes in a rool 5 feet long....works like a champ

ryankk49 November-10th-2002 07:01 AM

u should buy the factory floor mats. they contour the inside of the car so good that no dirt will ever touch the carpet. plus, they stay put.

Evil Homer MP5 November-10th-2002 03:02 PM

The P5 comes with factory floor mats, but the don't like to stay put.

Thanks for all the help.

Mr_Green November-11th-2002 04:32 PM

Solution:

Go to wal-mart or target and buy that rubberized "contact paper." It costs around $5 a roll for 5'x20". It's the same stuff that some people use in there pantries, cabinets, and tool boxes. It's some sort of mesh stuff that is then covered with some sort of rubber.

Evil Homer MP5 November-11th-2002 07:15 PM

Foxy, the mats DO HAVE spikes, but they don't do jack shit.
the mats still slide.

I'll try something soon.

ProtoTex November-11th-2002 08:10 PM

Maybe someone already said this. I have no problem with the passenger mats in my Pro5. Factory mats, stay just fine. Driver's mat was always all over the place. Kept sliding up under the pedals. Asked the parts guy at the dealer. Bought a pegged braket that screws to the floor under the front of the seat. Put it under the carpet. Cut a small holl for the peg. Factory look. No more sliding mats. I think the passenger side has the same screw. Then you just need the nifty hole in the mat.

I agree, find a new family or new friends :) if they don't appreciate your car. Why can't people respect other's cars
and not eat/jump/and fuck around.

Having the same problem. People getting in and out, passenger side and rear mats all over the place. The factory carpet mats are not heavy enough for the spikes to work. Spikes are also too small and too flexible. I bought some all season rubber mats that have some weight to them and threw them on top of the factory mats. The whole deal stays put.

Bought some velcro from Frabric Land and will be attaching them to the bottom to make sure they stay put no matter what.

to each his own. my idea of fun is having a car that looks good and is clean and when people look at it they say "wow, this car is so sweet". turning an $18000 investment into junk yard POS is not my idea of fun. having ants crawl all over the place because somebody dropped a piece of food in my car is not my idea of fun. and having seats that are ripped and carpet with dirt spots in it is not my idea of fun. but thats just me. i like to think of my car as a showcar. :D

Bomber November-12th-2002 12:47 PM

I punched a little hole on the side of my new floormat and put a zip tie thru it and conected it to the post that originaly held the floormat in place on the drivers seat. It works fine.

Try the aftermarket rubber mats at the mazda dealership. I can't remember who makes them, they are some sort of generic mat I think. Mine cost me $39.95 CAD for all four. They're thin so they might not be the best for the winter but the sure do stay put! Plus they do kinda look cool.

I went to walmart and bought the industrial strenght adhesive backed velcro. (as suggested by Nuke and Foxy). Holy crap I am pretty sure those mats will still be stuck to the car when the melt it for scrap. I tried to take one out to readjust it and it damn near pulled the carpet out with it. Thanks for the tip guys.

If you don't use as much as I did you should be ok. I would recommend a 1"X2" strip in each corner of the mat. Oh yeah and cut the little knobbies off the mats so the tape sticks better.
Stocker.
