Factory subwwofer???
I was down at the dealer last night browsing through their inventory with one of the salesmen. We ran across a Pro5 with the Moon&Tunes pkg. Right there on the window sticker it said 100 watt subwoofer. It made the pkg $100 more than usual, but listed the sub as no charge. Any of you guys heard anything about this? We couldn't get the keys to the car last night because it hadn't been prepped yet. I'm going to try to go back this weekend and see if we can look then, but I wondered if anyone knew anything.

Probably a lame dealer package of some sort. Never heard of this before. Keep us posted! :D

same here....never heard of a "MOON AND TUNES" package....and certainly not a sub in any of the standard package that are generally available.....and its NOT on the Mazda site that I could find either.

hello sir Nuke:D

I know. I was just on the site yesterday and didn't see anything new. "moon and tunes" is a term I think i made up. It's the package for the moonroof and 6 disc in-dash cd changer. The sticker we saw also listed the sub, and increased the normal pkg price by $100. I' will post again when I actually see and HEAR it.

There is an easy way to tell if it's factory or not. Is it on the MSRP decal on the window that came with the car or is it on a smaller 'accessory' decal next to it? You know the one... The decal that has the optional fabric protection for $950 and pinstripes for $650... Standard dealer scams.

I have heard of the "Moon & Tunes" package too. Although, I can't find it referred to anywhere on the Mazda web site or in any of the Mazda brochures I have here. I must have seen it at the dealer here when I was buying my P5. It was the moonroof and CD changer package but I don't remember anything about a subwoofer.

I got the "moon and tunes" package on my p5 |
If the dealer is selling that for 100 than it cant be worth 50 right? Best to save money and get aftermarket.

my 2002 came with a moonroof but not the 6-disc

if its only a 100W sub, you should save up for aftermarket stuff...much better....

I had to pick up a pert at the dealer yesterday, so I drove to the back lot and found the car that I saw the other night. The sub is on the MSRP sticker. It's factory, not dealer. The code was MC1. That code was for the CD changer and moonroof pkg, but it had the sub listed as like a note under the pkg. The option price for the pkg was $100 more than the same pkg without the sub. Here's the thing. There was not a separate option code for the sub, so I think it is going to be part of the "moon & tunes" pkg. I agree that if you want all out, earth-shaking bass a factory sub just won't do it for you. But it should be a good compliment to the updated six speaker stereo to add some depth. Anyway, like I said before, I will try to sample it this weekend. I'll also see if my guesses are correct about that being just a new part of the old pkg.

Proto, thanks for doing all the research.
I'm interested to see what the setup is for a factory sub... how big, if the amp is built-in or outboard, but most importantly...where they put it! keep us posted- Leigh |
another thing that pisses me off, they now offer leather and a 6 speaker sound system. i REALLY wanted leather and my factory system just plain sux
