What exactly does the car do when you try to start it? Does it crank or just sit there and do nothing? Does it do anything unusual? You'll need to give more detail to get a diagnosis, there are all sorts of things that will make a car fail to start.

I think is your intake cam , maybe you are not getting enough air check your setup.

When I first bought my '85 Chevy S10 2.5 TBI it used to take a long time cranking before it would start, sometimes had to crank it two or three times. I learned to move the key to Ignition and wait a few seconds for the fuel line to pressurize. Once the pump turned off (about 3-4 seconds, it could be heard inside the cabin) the truck would start.

I still wait a few seconds before cranking the Protege... Just in case. :)
