Engine block heater

Anybody ever install one? Costs only $28 bucks from mazdastuff.com, but I don't know what's involved in istallation.

Any comments on how benefitial it is to have one (like how much wear-and-tear is reduced by cranking a warm engine vs. a cold one). Might be useful for these WI winters.....

Thanks--

Mine came installed by the dealer. They are pretty much mandatory here in Calgary.

If you have cold winters, block heaters are much more than worth their weight. I didn't have a single problem starting my Pro this winter.

Even my gf's '91 Jetta GL has one and it never has a problem starting in temps lower than -20 C.

they are kinda a pain in the rear to install. you have to actually remove a freeze plug and thats where they get installed at. im not sure exactly how bad they are to do on a protege but i do know our technicians had a hell of a time putting one in on new miata. they come with instructions that are easy to follow just probably difficult to install.
