ECU Reset

I have a quick question regarding the ECU when the battery is disconnected. Today I did some minor maintenance under the hood, check levels, top of fluids and clean the battery posts. Now after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery after cleaning the posts and terminals would this have automatically reset the ECU since all power was removed? I'm really curious because although has been running great, it seemed to jerk a bit when the rpms were low in 2nd gear and slow going but after the battery disconnection the car seems to be even smoother then before, is this just a coincidence?

Thanks

disconnecting the battery and then pressing the brake 10 times should reset your ECU.

Yep, this works great if you want to reset it quickly. Pressing the brake with the battery disconnected will discharge any stored voltage quickly, whick resets the ecu. But if you have the battery disconnected for an extended length of time, the voltage will also bleed off without pressing tthe brake pedal. It will just take longer for the voltage to discharge enough to reset it.

Also, another easy way to reset all the capacitors in your car is to dis-connect the two battery cables from the battery, then short them together with a wrench or a 6 inch extension bar or something similar, or just touch them together. NOT ON THE BATTERY, only short the two CABLES together. I fixed a Mazda 3 like this that had some BCM glitches.
