dumb question

ok, so what size are the stock wheels on the 02 pr5? no laughing!!!

Roddimus Prime March-11th-2005 12:54 PM

195/50/r16

16" wheels.

bcubed March-11th-2005 01:31 PM

thanks. i want to drop the car, not a lot just enough to help in the corners. should i get a larger (17s) wheelset or will i be ok with the stock set?
i'm going to need new tires soon. any suggestions?

Roddimus Prime March-11th-2005 01:45 PM

i think 17's would be perfect. Anything more would be overkill. Look for someting in a 205/45/17 or 215/40/17 size. When it comes to tires dont be cheap. The tires are the only thing holding your car to the road.

:withstupi
yah...and no question is a dumb question.

ok...wait...retract my last statement.

bcubed March-11th-2005 02:03 PM

so i should get 17s before i lower the car?
agreed on the tire thing. i've got toyo proxes now. they're pretty good in the rain, is there anything better on the market? if not i'll just get the toyos again.

kargoboy March-11th-2005 03:35 PM

Doesn't really matter...just be careful of the wheel offset. A lot of wheels out there do NOT fit our cars properly. You're going to want +48 at least.
Which wheels are you looking at, and which springs?
I've got the Eibachs but I'm sticking with the stock 16s for now. Unless Matty ruins them...lol.

A bit of advice... I would go with 215 40 R17 tires. The 215 means 215 mm wide, so you'll pick up an additional 20mm over stock (more contact area = greater grip). And, the 40 is the sidewall height; it is a percentage value of the width. Going with 215 versus 205 buys you a little less than 4mm of additional sidewall height, which (having owned both 205 and 215 40 series tires) makes a lot of difference when navigating through the potholes here in Detroit. You wouldn't think it does, but trust me, it does... haven't bent a rim yet with the 215's! Can't say that at all with my previous car and the 205's!

As far as your question goes, don't be shy to ask us the basics. That's why we are here... to support eachother in our enthusiasm for these cars.

not sure about the wheels. i have the p5 in vivid yellow. i think dark grey or black would look nice. motegi makes a few that i like.
as far as the springs go, i'm open to suggestions. i've read other threads that mention goldlines, but eibachs seem to be the most popular.

juddz March-11th-2005 03:43 PM

BTW, I have the Eibachs (Prokit) and love them. The car looks great, handles great, and the ride is still quite good.

bcubed March-11th-2005 03:47 PM

I would go with 215 40 R17

will that size fit my stock wheels?

Roddimus Prime March-11th-2005 04:02 PM

no because the size I listed is for a 17" wheel.....here's the break down:

215 / 40 / xxx17
mm in width / ratio of height to width / wheel diameter

ok i got it! :dunce: i can lower the car with the stock wheels. i will get better results if i get 17s and tires to match. right?

kargoboy March-11th-2005 05:55 PM

Well, sort of. If you are talking about looks only, a 17" wheel will give you a tighter looking fit.
Watch out for Motegi rims--I like a lot their designs but there are several that come in only
+42 offset. That's really not enough.

bcubed March-11th-2005 06:11 PM

i don't care too much about looks. my goal is to make my car run/drive better. so if i can get the same results with the stock wheels i'll just drop the car and drive.
