Door light on P5

You know the little symbol that indicates that a door is open, well when the door is open it is bright red. At all other times mine is a dim red, even with the car off and keys out doors locked, it is still dim red. Of course it's only noticeable when it is dark out but it stands out a night enough to make me look at it (You know when you know something is not right you can't help but stare at it wondering whats up? annoying.). Any one else have this on their 2003 or earlier protege 5??

If you still have warranty, take it back to the dealer, sounds like a wiring problem, like a bad ground.
If you don't have warranty pull out the bulb and just "fo-gedda-bout-it!" :D

I got a 2002 P5... my light was normal until last weekend when I got my alarm system installed. Now it's also dimly lit.

turn it all the way up.

Just drove this evening and it is actually as bright as the rest of the gauges, just gets brighter when a door is open. It could have to do with when they installed my Alpine alarm as it was done as a dealer install. I'll bring it in and get it checked...thanks!

Hello, I know exactly what the problem is, This happens when you install an aftermarket alarm, the door trigger on the alarm sends a feedback to the sensor so that causes the light to stay dim. I had that problem right after I had my alarm installed. Go back to where your alarm was installed the should change the wire used for the door trigger to one with a terminator on it. Just tell them that and they should know what it is.

Good luck, I had mine fixed.

Thanks Fellow Torontonian! I will arrange to get my car brought in, while I'm there I may get them to link the power windows and sunroof to my Alarm remote too since it has that ability.
