Different style "stock-alloy" wheels for Protege5 models...?
I just saw a "brand-new" Protege5 and it had "different" style wheels on it. They were NOT aftermarket wheels. The alloy wheels were unpolished and instead of having a round spoke look ( like mine and yours) they had a sharp, straight egde, I believe they either had 5 or 6 spokes ( can't remember).
Has anybody seen this style wheel on the Protege5? Later, Speedbump. PS. the car was spotted in San Jose, Ca. USA |
Your description sounds like the wheels that I have. I just picked up a P5 with the "mid-year refresh". They changed the style on the wheels, the cup holders no longer have a cover, there are side "european-style" turn signals, six speakers, and leather wraped shifter.

I new I wansn't going LoCo........ what do you mean by the "European Style" turn signals.....?
Good Luck with your NEW Mazda!!!! Later, Speedbump. PS. Where in NorCal do you reside, I call San Jose home. |
The "european-style" turn signals are mounted on the side of the fenders, so people next to you can see you signal.
I'm up in the North Bay, Sonoma County. Man, there are some great twisties up here ;) Sue 2002 Silver |
No doubt your roads are primo...... I WAS going to drive up to Sears Point for the ALMS races 2 weeks ago, but a family reunion got in the way.......
If you could take some photo's of your "upgrades", I'm sure we would all like to see them. head over to protegetech.com and read the review that Edwin wrote up on the 2002.5 Protege5. it has all the changes in the car, including the new gauges, wheels, all that good shit. :)

Indeed, they have new wheels now. I didn't like them and had them trade them to another car on the lot for the pre-change wheels. I hope this doesn't bite me later!

Refresh Wheels
I too just picked up a mid-year refresh P5. The first edition wheels with the twist are more eye-appealing to me, but I don't know how long I'll keep the original wheels on the car ('cept winter driving) so I didn't think about it too much.
http://www.cyberstation.net/~turbotodd/P5wheel.jpg The other changes- tweeter, new shift knob, cup holders, etc are all welcome changes. If anyone wants shots of those, I can go shoot them and post. Turbo former '00 Pro LX MBM, 5 speeed latter '02 Protege 5 MBM, 5 speed |

I mean I dunno I think it looks too cluttered up there with the corner light thingies on the bumper and now the "euro" side thingies. |
Hey, Turbotodd, I wouldn't mind getting some pics of the mid year refresh of the interior as well whenever you have time. Thanx!

i'm with the sweed,
its to crowded, they should have taken off the orange and put on the clear, or white sidemarkers, but i think that would have been illegal. also the original stock rims aren't anything to praise, but i do perfer them over the new ones, not that they look bad. -Jason |
again, go to protegetech.com and look at the review edwin wrote up... there's pictures of all changes, interior, exterior... all that stuff. ;)

man, i think the P5's stock alloys - both the new and original - look great!! same goes with the 'newest' miata rims :bt:
why doesn't the aftermarket make rims as nice looking as these?? :dunno: i'm looking for 15's, and just don't like the mainly 'gaudy' styles out there - i like something simple, sharp, and clean; which IMO is what makes the p5/miata rims soo goodlookin.... |
