denso iridiums vs. platinum +4's

i can't seem to decide which plugs to go with? does anyone have any suggestions or comments on these plugs as to which one is better for our motors? or does anyone have these plugs in their car? please help me...

Save your money on a good dinner and use standard plugs recommended for the car. You won't see any improvement.

well the thing is this, i also have a 93 ford probe that i had bought the platinum +4's for and it seems to pull a little harder and stronger, so i was wondering if the denso iridiums are better or not?

That probably had more to do with the fact that you actually put new plugs in more than the type. I use the regular 69 cent Bosch Super in all my cars. Never had a problem and never will.

personally, i think the stock NGK's are the best for the protege's, even with mild mods like intake/exhaust. unless you're running some sort of FI - turbo, s/c or nitrous... you really don't need to upgrade with the proteges. i can't feel a difference with the iridiums in over my ngk's. only reason i switched up, is because i'm running nitrous now. otherwise, stock NGK's. AND NEVER BUY AUTOLITE OR ANY OF THE CHECKER CRAP PLUGS. do yourself a favor, and spend the extra $5 at the dealership for the OEM NGK's, otherwise you'll be kicking yourself for it. I tested this out once to see if it made a different. The shit I picked up at Checker Auto Parts for a few dollars cheaper, made my car run like shit.

I've tried the Platinum +4's and was not impressed with them at all! Shortly after installing them, I noticed hesitation at certain rpm's and a rough idle. I double-checked their installation and found nothing wrong, so I stuck with them thinking the problem lay elsewhere. 25k miles later, I changed the plugs to regular Bosch plugs (single electrode) and found a like-new smooth idle and no more hesitation. Plus, those Platinum +4's were burnt to a crisp! They sucked!

Spark Plugs Changes:
----------------------------
26,000 miles - Swapped OEM NGK to Platinum +4
51,000 miles - Swapped Platinum +4 to standard Bosch

is there anyone out there with enough knowlegde about spark plugs where we could just end this conversation about which is better or worse??? i would appreciate if someone who actually knows for a fact please reply...:D

protetype May-8th-2002 01:58 PM

fact: the OEM NGK's are the best for stock/mildly modified engines. the end.

i agree with using NGK's. they supply more OEM's than any other plug maker. they are the same plug the engineers used when they designed the engine. you don't have to get them form the dealer, if you get the same part number from the parts store it will be the same plug.
you cannot gain HP from a simple plug change. if you have the proper plug for your car, another one will not make more hp. (on a stock engine, modified is different)
you can go to NGK's website and they will tell you the same thing. i don't think that those fancy bosch plugs will add any performance but they may last longer do to the platnium and the 4 grounding electrodes.
if perfrormance could be gained from more electrodes the every plug maker would have multiple electrodes.

To my understanding (from my mech. friend) he says the only diffrence between regular bosch and bosch + 2, bosch +4 and so on is that you have a less chance of miss firing. The spark plugs don't put out spark. Well they do but its the spark coming from the coil. IMO every spark plug has the same resistance in them. So the IMO the $.69 spark plug will be just as good as the $7.99 spark plug. If you have a distributor and want better spark, get higher power coils, and less restrictive (coil type) spark plug wires.

FACT: BOSCH plugs are notorious for manufacture defects, the worst of the major makes(Champion, A/C Delco, NGK etc.)

My advise to anyone is to stick with stock OEM plugs. Platinum plugs are for the non-mechanic types who never take care of thier cars. The O-N-L-Y thing you gain with platinum is plug life. Stick to OEM style plugs and change them on a regular tune up schedule!

I'm using the +4 and love them, I got better milage and noticed an improvement in the lower gears. There have not been any side effects so far.
