To deflect or not to deflect
 

I found a small stone chip on the hood and a bigger one under the driver's mirror while waxing my car Sunday. I have been thinking of getting a hood deflector and after the hood chip I am seriously considering it now. I found a "Benevento" deflector at autoaccessories.com. I think it will look pretty decent on a black car but I have read on this forum about having to use spacers between the deflector and paint. I'm not too thrilled with this idea. What could happen if I left the spacers off? Does anyone make a deflector that doesn't require the spacers?
Used P21S wax for the first time. It was pretty easy to work with, not as easy to rub off as I thought it would be though. Seemed a little easier to work with than Blitz One Grand. Anyone ever use either of these waxes?

I just stick to Meguires and Turtle Wax.:)

Don't put a deflector on your car. They are just down right ugly.

If you want to protect your car just install X-pel automotive film on your car. You will get the protection that you want and not have an ugly plastic thing hanging off your car.

If you insist on a deflector you must use the spacers unless you drive on silky smooth roads no faster that 5 mph, if you don't the whole width of the deflector will hit your paint job.

I have a hood deflector. I also used to think they uglified a car, but the look grew on me, and it sure has done a good job. After one year on the road I have exactly ONE stone chip in my hood. No complaints here. Yes, it does need the plastic bumpers under it to stop it from hitting the hood, but on mine there are only two bumpers and you could probably get by with just one. If you really don't like that idea then perhaps the magnetic bra would be an option for you, although those have their drawbacks as well.

Well, i was asking myself if the hood-deflector is good or bad for a car? I mean, will I have two shaded color on my car?

It is a thin plastic film that is applied to the front of your vehicle. Very good product, warranty for the life of your car.

Do not let the P21 Wax dry to a haze. Work in small sections and remove before it hazes over,
Should work real well, I use it and love it.

the hood deflector.... it can come on and off easy?? and leaves no mess??? if so i say go with it....

I am personally thinking of getting a clear bra from rockblocker.com. They sell the same kit as stongard for less than half the price and cover more than a bra.

I dont want a hood defelctor they look funny and more trouble then they are worth.

I've got a (seasonal) bug deflector on m car. As soon as the streets are swept, off it comes, leaving nothing there. THe little bumpers come off, and new ones can be bought for next year, so it's no biggie.

I have the bug deflector from Mazda Of Wooster on ebay, it looks great to me. It comes with bumpers but I do not need to use them because it has 2 plastic anchors that attached to either side of hood which supports the entire piece. reply back if you want a picture of my car..

I've got the same one. Nice piece. I don't think it's ugly at all.

It works okay, but truth is, nothing is going to fully protect your car. Our paint is thin - this is a known fact - and unless you get the x-pel film, or a full-face bra, you will still get little chips in the front bumper. Fact of life.

yup, that is mine, Hey, do you use the rubber bumpers or just those corner plastic anchor things???

I just use the anchors and can take it through car washes without the center part slapping the hood.

Also, have you taken yours off and lifted off the "anti-vibriation" plastic sticky things?? Do they leave marks on the paint???
