De-snowing Techniques
We got our first snow of the year last night, and when I woke up I had about a foot of snow on my car. Since its that time of year, I was interested in how all of you uncover your cars in the winter. I usually go at it with a broom, but I'm always afraid I'm going to scratch the paint. I would love to have a car cover, but I know I would never use it (huge pain in the ass). So... let me know what you guys do!!

I start the car, turn the defrost on all the way, lock the spare set of keys in it, and go back inside of the house to get ready for work. Yeah, manual transmissions are a great anti-theft device...
The broom technique will scratch the paint. Why not just use a scraper to knock the remaining snow off the windows, and let the rest blow off on the highway? |
lock the spare keys in it?
|
start the car up with the spare key and lock it then use the other key top open it when you're ready to leave. that way you don't have to worry about your car get stolen
|
ah, i thought it was somehting you could do with manual trannys only.

When i lived in Denver, i had a remote start on my Blazer. It was great. It didn't unlock the car, and even if it did, if someone wanted to come and drive away, as soon as they pressed on the break to put it in gear the engine would die unless the key was in and ignition on... I'd suggest one to anyone
|
thought about doing that before but it's one of those things that seems like it would be more of a hassle than it's worth
|
Trust me, there's absolutely not hassle at all! I say go for it, especially if you live where you wake up with snow on your car!

I have an auto (yeah, I know, I know), and I'm thinking that the keyless entry is disabled when the car is running, so I guess I would have to lock it w/the spare key while its warming up. There was way too much snow for the defrost to take care of this morning, though. Does anyone use on of those cheap universal car covers?

Hey! As the guy behind you being blinded with ALL THE SNOW BLOWING OFF your car because you were lazy - take a moment and clear it off. Wouldja'?
