Dash rattle help

Hey guys. Car now has about 1300 miles on it and I have just started noticing an annoying little dash rattle over on the passenger side. It only happens on rough pavement (like really pebbly stuff, not nessisarily broken pavement) and not over bumps. It's not bad enough to rush down to the dealer, and I'll probably talk to them about it at my first oil change. Has anyone had this same thing? Anyone have a suggested fix? I haven't crawled under there to see if anything was loose yet, but pounding my hand around the dash a bit didn't reveal it's location nor seem to affect the noise while it's occuring.

Thanks!

That's what I thought too, but I removed everything that could rattle (left the owners manual in there) and it still exists.

Do you know whereabouts in the dash the rattle is coming from (besides just "the passenger side")?

It could possibly be coming from somwhere other than the dash, such as door panels, etc.

I went nuts looking for a rattle in my car when it was new... thought it was the glove box, turns out it was the ash tray. If I pull it out ever so slightly it stops making noise. Every now and then I notice it again and just open it back up a little (my friends helpfully close it for me when they notice it).

Might be worth a shot.

Thanks guys. Its hard to track down when driving since I have to keep an eye on the road and can't crane my head around trying to locate it exactly. It COULD be coming from the passenger side door, but it sounds like it's more in the glovebox/lower dash area.

I haven't experienced a rattle in the dash, but I have had a sound coming from directly above my head as I drive. It's more of a squeek that a rattle.

I have a factory sunroof in my Protege5 and I suspect that it causes or contributes to the sound. The sound is faint but being a couple inches above my head it is annoying at times. Sounds like something is moving between the headliner and roof of the car. Anybody else experience this?

Can you describe the sound? My P5 has a metallic ting sounding rattle in the driver door. Weird thing is it only happens when one of the window in the car is opened. If I close all windows/sunroof it goes away.

I have that one too :( They are different. The one in the dash is louder/heavier sounding. The one in the door is also annoying :(

A suggestion.

First, find a bumpy/gravely road where you know the rattle will occur. Then let a friend drive while you search for he source of the noise.

Could be something as simple as a hanging wire smacking against something. But since you know your car and the noise best, let someone else drive while you snuff it out.
