Dash Rattle?

i have a rattle that seems to come from the center of the dash. i can usually only hear it when my music is off but it's pretty annoying. i noticed some others have had this also. so....... did you guys take it to the dealer or what? anyone know what is rattling? i have an aftermarket HU in but i had the rattle before the install. will the dealer still fix this? :dunno:

Nah when I idle I get a rattle from where the passenger air bag seems be. Its pretty damn irritating, but I'm scared to pound on it, cause I would be pissed if I set off the air bag.

its the fan for the air recycle.. turn the fan up or off. that will solve the problem, and yes it was annoying

Uhh I don't have the fan on. Because I like to have the vent thingy in the def/feet position, and OH WAIT THAT'S ANOTHER I HATE ABOUT THIS CAR. The stupid AC comes on when I don't want it to. Jesus, why the hell did Mazda think they should dictate to you when you need the damn AC on and when you don't?

You'd better get used to that. EVERY SINGLE new car I have driven in the last 3-4 years automatically turns on the AC when using the defogger.

I had a rattle that only occurred on the highway. I thought it was coming from the pass. airbag area of the dash. Turns out its the WINDSHIELD WIPER! The tip of the blade doesn't rest on the glass so it vibrates when traveling at high speed

For real? Why? That totally sucks ass. Cause I like the heat, but I don't like the vents blowing in my damn face. I like it staggered between the defrost and the feet position. But I can't do that in this car without the damn AC coming on. MY roomates GTI didn't do that.

Its because some people are too stupid to know that AC acts as a dehumidifier & therefore combining AC with heat on the defogger makes it more effective. Companies probably got sick of people bitching about the defoggers not working. There's probably a way to rig the wiring so that your AC doesn't come on unless you want it to- there was a way to do that on my Celica.

There is. Do a search in this forum to find out how to de-solder the microswitches so that the A/C only comes on when the button is depressed. Beware though, for your A/C compressor to sit all winter for example, unused, isn't the best thing for it. By using the A/C, you keep all of the bearings etc. lubricated and prolong the life of your compressor. If you do decide never to use it, just be sure to idle the car once a month for about half an hour with A/C on just to keep the bearings lubed. Just set it on max cold, with the fan at 4 on "Panel" mode, and turn the A/C on. That should keep everything nice and healthy.
