You have to remember that there are 2 separate 'senders' (for lack of a better term) that send spark. Something could be up with those, and still qualify as part of the coil pack. That's what I'm thinking, but iono. Either that or the boot.

It wastes those sparks like none other :P yeah.. it sparks each plug twice as much as it needs to.. cyl 2 and 3 fire together off the cylinder 2 coil, and 4 and 1 fire together off the cylinder 4 coil.

and those two senders.. are the coils.

yeah, but they're in 1 'unit' (you know, a coil pack). And I gotcha, I'm retarded lol. I'm not up on my coil pack terminology. But you know what I'm saying tho...1 coil could be damaged / flaky while the other is fine

If one coil was worn out, the misfire would be multiple cylinder. If it's in some way fault (not normal wear and tear) then who knows.

I think im gonna order a coil from napa and try it out, and both the same part number?

yeah the two coils are the same. If you find a napa that can actually obtain the coils let me know. I tried and my order got cancelled with an e-mail stating 'the product is not available'..

I would also like to know place to get good plug wires, that means both wires that come off the coil and the ones that go straight down. Federated auto parts said $90 for each wire that goes under the coil.

New coils replace the ones that go under the coil. As for wires, NGK makes very high quality wires. Stay far away from sparkco, they crapped out way too quickly for me.

I just switched out the two coils with each other and so far, no CEL, I drove about 25 miles to work. I was hoping to get a CEL for cylinder 3 instead of 2, since is switched then, then I can say its the coil or wire. Ill keep you guys posted.

KYaniak August-3rd-2007 06:33 PM

Swapped coils, CEL came back, still cylinder 2.

This means cylinder 2 is misfiring, but its not the plug, wire, or coil. Im gonna clean the EGR out. What else could it possibly be?

aMaff August-3rd-2007 09:53 PM

injector not working right maybe? Try seafoaming the fuel / intake

KYaniak August-6th-2007 06:42 PM

I sucked up some seafoam through the intake, man was there a lot of white smoke. Next Im going to clean up the 02 sensor and the EGR.

Has anyone put seafoam into the oil?

_Kansei_ August-6th-2007 08:22 PM

I have before.. but then you gotta change the oil like.. really soon after.. really soon

amsgator August-6th-2007 09:31 PM

dont drive over 100 miles w/ seafoam in the oil

KYaniak August-9th-2007 11:37 AM

UPDATE:

I drove a while with some fuel injector cleaner in the tank, ran the seafoam, and changed the plugs. I also checked vacuum (a little high I think at 22in) and compression (i think 180 on all cylinders) and then I rented an OBDII scanner. I actually cleared the code with that. Now the car seems to run like normal and no CEL, and I drove about 75 miles already. I hope it doesnt come back. Thanks for the help everyone.

So, just got a code for a cylinder 2 misfire, pulled all the plugs and they looked fine; I replaced the plugs at about 56,000 miles. (put e3 diamond fire plugs in, car ran beautifully.) I've got about 81,000 miles on the car now. Figured it's probably a coil pack; before I go running around like an idiot, just want to verify that Cyl 2 is second from passenger side when you're looking at your car. Used to have access to Mitchell's on demand from school, but they changed the log in credentials, so I can't find a diagram.
