Cylinder #1 misfire, Code P0301
 

I'm back with another question. Got a lot of help with my last problem (EGR), and was able to fix it thanks to help from you guys. Latest Problem: CEL on, Code P0301. While I was repairing the EGR valve last month, I also checked the spark plugs, they all looked good, but I cleaned them anyway since I have a spark plug media blaster. Car stats:1999, 1.6L, 122,000 miles . Original plug wires, 50,000 miles on plugs. Never been in for a professional injector cleaning. Never has overheated.
I did my homework, searched P0301 on the forum, hoping this isn't block or head gasket related, gonna start with the basics. Need reccommendations on which plugs and wires to buy for this high mileage car, and whatever else I should check for. Also, in my research, I read about the MAF possibly needing cleaning. Don't see how a dirty sensor would cause a particular cylinder to misfire, but am curious about that as well. Thanks guys, I'll be anxious to hear from ya............

Swap the plug wires first - OEM is fine. My bet is that it will fix it. (That is alot of miles on original wires! ;))

i got the 1999 1.6L too... and had the same problem.... where one cylinder missfired or didn;t fire and caused the car to lag like a hippo fudger....

the problem was that the ignition coil was screwed up... and its part of mazda's service re-call.... if u take it to the dealer they will fix it free of charge regardless if its under warranty or not...

i did it when i took it for the 100,000Km Major service (i though the big one should be done @ dealer hehe)....

have a look for that... maybe its the case..

The manual for my '02 P5 with the says change the plugs at 30k miles. I bought the car with 32k and when I changed them it made a real improvement in performance. I'd guess they would be completely shot at 50k.

Okay, I'm gonna replace plugs and wires, then try to get the recall work done. Anybody know a link to info about the recall MCs talking about. Gotta get myself educated before I go to the dealer. Thanx

Stueck, that link is to an electrical problem, but it is related to the car's audio system. I browsed the website, but that's the only thing it showed for my "99 :dunno:

i am 99% sure it was ignition coils... it was something to do with one of the cylinders not firing badly....

i had this problem the day i was takin it into the major serivce @ 100 000km.... i would like loose shit loads of power... engine revs up2 like 5000rpm but still very crap... and when idle almost stalls....

bt yeh took it and i didn;t even mention it... they said they took the car for the test drive and on the way back it happened... and they realized my car wasn;t fixed during the serice recalls
