The cure for "Electrical Shock"......
 

Thanks to fellow poster, Charles who suggested that I try some "Static Guard" to cure my problem of getting a shock when exiting my Protege5. Well, I'm happy to report that IT WORKS ! I simply spray a litttle bit on my drivers seat and I've had no shock for over a week. This morning I did start to get a minor zap, so I re-sprayed, It appears to work for about 10 day's.........

PS. Static Guard is used for your laundry and is available at most grocery stores.

I've never gotten static shock from my vehicle. Well on my seats I have the acrylic sheep-skin seat covers that I bought for around $20. I can't attest to ever getting shocked myself so I don't know exactly what it is. I live in washington too so perhaps it's the humidity in the air a little bit too.

the hell with living in washington idea. i live in washington and i get shocked just talking about the subject. maybe not but i do live in washington and i do get shocked!

Usually happens when it's dry out. I think the interiors on the the ES and the P5 are prone to static for some reason. I get shocked by mine if I don't grab the top of the door as I get out. I'm going to try the static gaurd idea.

I used to get zapped with my 92 Protege. On that one there was a small 'button' next to the door lock on the top of the door panel. It was there for you to put your finger on as you exited the vehicle. That would discharge any static buildup as you slid out of the seat. It worked when I remembered to do it but haven't noticed (or looked) for anything similar on my P5.

yo vibrant...I agree bro...I also live in Wa and get the hell shocked out of me by my car...and as far as to what traveler said about it being dry out...don't think so my friend...I live in Western Wa on Whidbey Island where it is usually wet outside, and I still get shocked...:D

ive noticed when its wet out i never get shocked, only in dry warm conditions, water conducts electricity!:eek: go figure eh? i think i can live with the shock and not spent 200 bux a year on static remover

It's more a matter of the relative humidity (RH) in the air. When it's raining, it's 100% humidity out and therefore there will be no static.

When it's hot and dry, then the RH will be much lower and consequently easy to build up a static charge and that is when you get your a$$ shocked.

Another trick you can try is to get some liquid fabric softener and mix it into some water in a spritzer bottle. ( go about half and half ) Mist the mixture onto any fabric you have. A little goes a long way so you don't need a lot. This does the same thing as the static guard and at the same time will make your car smell fabric softener fresh instead of static guard stinky!

We use this here at work on the carpets around the computers to keep us from zapping the PCs all the time. Lasts longer than static guard cuz the fabric softener takes a long damn time to come out..

It must be something with the seats then. I usually get shocked more on dry days though. Whidbey Is eh? I grew up there. Graduated from Oak Harbor high school. It's a lot drier there than it is on the mainland. Sometimes I wish I still lived there.

Ya you know now that someone brought this topic up again, I haven't noticed any shocks since I put my seat covers on....

Key discharge
 

I used to get shocked all the time. Now, whenever I exit the car I touch the door frame with the key. I can hear the snap and many times see the blue spark but I don't feel it since it is discharged through the tip of the key.
