Cracked front windshield
A stone hit my windshield. No, I didn't get the truck's license plate info. :(
The crack comes up on the right side, past where the right wiper is, then arcs over towards the driver side. It's about 8" long at this point. It's a clean crack, and I can't see where the stone actually hit the glass. I remember reading about a repair method and was wondering if anyone had any info on it (esp. some 1st hand experience). The crack is growing so I need to repair it quickly. I tried doing a search and couldn't find anything. EDIT: to add extra info about the crack |
Check your state laws...If you have full coverage most states will pay for the windshield to be replaced....is the crack as long as a dollar bill ??

usually the insurance will pay for it, there should be winshield medics all over the place. they say over a foot long then they cant do much. so if i were you id hurry and try to get it fixed.

Thanks for the info. California doesn't have any laws on it, so I still need to check with my insurance company. I'm pretty sure my deductible is so high it won't matter. Looks like I'll be taking care of this today as it's almost 12" long now.

You mean if you would of gotten the trucks license plate number, that guy would of had to pay for it where you are from?

My windshield cracked about two weeks ago. My insurance won't pay for it here in Arkansas. A buddy of mine told me that alot of peoples windshields are cracking due to stress. (Stress cracks) Hopefully it will keep happening and the warranty will cover it.

I had a similar type of problem with my windshield on my last car(before the Protege). I took it to an auto glass repair shop, and asked about the repair method. They say it only works well where the actual stone or rock hit, like a gouged area, but it doesn't work real well at all with the crack that usually ensues and spreads. Do you have full coverage(comprehensive at least)? Your insurance should cover a windshield replacement, and most of the glass shops around my area(western Michigan)waive the deductible, so usually it is completely free and much safer to just replace the glass completely. Hope this helps!

Poor Glass
I too had to replace the windshield on my Pro within the first 8 months of ownership. In 11 years driving my previous Nissan Sentra through conditions worse then the Pro has ever seen (including multiple hits from truck gravel like that which cracked the cheap-ass Mazda window), the Sentra never once needed the windshield replaced. In fact the car is still running with it's original windshield. And I also had to pay out of pocket for the Pro's new glass-- Insurance wouldn't pay a dime.
I believe the glass installed in the Protege is sub-standard and wantonly offensive, although this may be a trend followed by all manufacturers these days. Poor quality never ceases to piss me off... |
my windshield cracked, but it wasn't an impact thingy. getting it replaced under warranty...

Wife just called me and said we have a crack midway down the window, no rock mark. Hmmmmmm

Did the dealer say anything about a service bulletin or recall. Which dealer in Hawaii? I think mine is a stress related crack. No rock chip.

well, my windshield is going to get fixed by the dealership. Friday night some dumbass ran into my speed when it was parked!!! He was hitting the crack pipe and said he didn't see my parked car!!!Lucky me he had valid insurance and my car is going to get fixed. The accident didn't get to the engine but messed up the front right body. My windshield cracked two weeks ago but i believe this guys insurance will pay for it. The windshield is cracked on the same side as the damage. MY POOR BRAND NEW SPEED, MESSED UP BY A CRACK HEAD.
