a couple quick questions...engine noise and stereo
My first question concerns the stock stereo in the 2001 Proteges. I am in between aftermarket stereos and tried to put the stock stereo back in as a temporary fix. I can't get it to come on, however. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was an internal fuse that was possibly blown, and if so where it was located.
Second, my 2001 LX 2.0 Protege has 92,000 miles on it. I've had regular oil changes done, but recently it seems to be running loudly. They asked me to turn off the engine the last time I tried to go to the McDonald's drive-thru. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks a lot! Brian |
I have no idea on the radio issues, but what do you mean by "the engine is running loudly?" What kind of loud? Clickity click loud or just humming loud? Are your fans running when this happens?

Just humming loud, i guess. no clicking that i know of. and i believe the fans are normally running at this time.

ck front pipe , possible flange is gone & front pipe is seperated from center pipe ,,,loud on accel? And yes their is a fuse inside radio soldered in board 10 amp I think

KrayzieFox - what would your advice be if i have a clicking? Thanks If you have clicking, I honestly couldn't tell ya what to do. I was just trying to get you to describe the noise a little better, and was praying you wouldn't say clicking. It's usually not a good sign so as long as it doesn't click we won't even get into it. |
Yes I mean the cast iron pipe directly bolted to your exhaust manifold, their are 2 ears that stick out from the pipe , to bolt too the center (resonator ) pipe , they have the 2 bolts ,springs & a donut gasket so the pipe can move with the engine flex , anyways the ears rust & break off leaving the front pipe free to open up from the center pipe (most noticeable when you give it a shot in reverse ) due to engine flexing.Or it's possible that the manifold is cracked ,,,,In all cases you should be able to detremine if it is an exhaust leak or not . Hell it may just be that your rad & a/c fan are running and that's it .
