Hmm, I have found the opposite. Since the weather turned cold my car has more power, more acceleration. I agree it doesn't start as well as during the summer, but fuel doesn't atomize as well in the cold, so its expected. As for the better running, its either the cold air is aiding power generation, the engine is finally totally broken in or the cold air with the K&N installed makes a noticable difference. Could be a combination of all. Regardless, I have no issues with my car durning colder temps.
Stocker.

I really have no cold issues either.

Had the car for a month and a half and my wife just told me I have to pull towards me I was like yeah right it show's here to push up. Sure enough they work and probably had the whole time. Did I ever feel like a dick!
Glad you learned how to use it, even though it is kinda funny:laugh:

I live in Toronto and my 2003 P5 has been very slow to catch on cold start-ups. Sounds like it won't start for a minute, then does. Also it is very loud when it is cold and you drive away. This is not in north pole weather either, it was only about -10 celcius or so.

Thats the north pole for me.

yeah, when its really cold the engine sounds like it won't start but it does. im happy i got my winter tires installed. im all set for winter :)

Redfyre December-16th-2002 06:15 AM

Ha ha. Ra2or, that is too funny! ;) Thanks for the laugh dude, glad you could admit to it.

I have some trouble with my MP5 catching in the cold too. Luckly it's always started for me. I lent my car out for a weeks when I was in South Africa and my brother says there was a day he couldn't even turn it over. And my sister tried too and still nothing. But it worked again the next morning when they tried. They say it wasn't even under freezing. So far I haven't experienced this. I'll post if I get this problem.

RA2OR December-16th-2002 08:02 PM

If I was in T.O. it would probably feel like South Africa, there are simalarities however like the drifting of sand, I mean snow. It's only getting colder now and I'll let you guys know when I plug her in. So far she hasn't let me down, I got my 14 inch Steel rims and my winter tires should be in tomorrow, I went with Toyo Observe G0-2 plus. If you guys want a kick-ass tire you should give them a try. I got 5 years of winter driving out of my last set and they're still going.

I live in Toronto as well, my P5 seems to start up fine... I haven't really experience summer driving, as I got my car the end of October. So, truly I don't have hot weather to compare it to. However I am happy with how my car drives. I do not warm up my car, unless I have to clear off snow.. otherwise I start it and drive. I was advised by my dealer, that cars now-a-days do not need warming up.. the engine will get as hot as it will get within about 30 seconds of turning your car on. So, there is no need to warm up your car before you drive off.

I don't let it warm up either, but do you find that when you first start driving the engine sounds loud? Also, when it's cold it has to turn over for about 5 full seconds which is alot for a new car.

I haven't particularily noticed that it's any louder, however I'm usually listening to music as soon as I get into the car. If I can remember to make a note of it, I will turn off my music when I start up the car, so I can listen to see how loud it is. Have you thought about the fact that in the winter the outside world just seems to be quieter all around? I mean walking in snow always seemed really loud, cause of the crunching sound. Maybe it's just me... but I think almost everything sounds louder outside in the winter... cause outside is quieter in the winter. (if that makes any sense at all..)

redrims December-17th-2002 08:51 PM

Yeah, that seems to make sense.

Smurfoo-rah December-25th-2002 04:28 PM

My P5 does sound loud (only at first), but then again, I think it's cause it's quieter outside in the Winter. I haven't driven my p5 in the summer yet, so I can't give a comparison.

Dermen December-25th-2002 08:09 PM

I haven't noticed any problems in the winter. When the car is cold it is a little slower but so was my last car. It could be because I park in a heated garage that I don't notice any difference but sometimes when my car is parked at a friends house for 4-5 hours it still starts up fine.

The only problem I have with the squirters is in the summer. When your sunroof is open the backseat passengers get a shower.

VagaBond-X December-25th-2002 08:55 PM

My car is perfect int he winter....

feels like its got more power...(as stated by some other individuals earlier)..its probably cause of the colder air.

hmm

I didn't really take note of this

but is it that all the newer type 3rd gens are having this problem
and the older 3rd gens are not...hmmm???

and 30 secs to get the block as hot as it would get hmmm

I don't think in those first 30 secs...it would get as hot as it would get if you ran your car to top speed from a stop...like what i did....redline every gear.....full throttle....was in the upper 5000 Rpms - redline most of the time...

plus it takes me about 3 - 4 minutes to get down to a clean idle 750RPM idle. not only 30 secs... dunno....maybe the dealer was wrong....but don't take my word....the dealer probably knows more....

Smurfoo-rah December-26th-2002 02:09 PM

Well, the 30 seconds thing I heard about from the service centre guy at a Mazda Dealer... but it makes sense. I mean the rad cools down the engine, right? So as long as it's doing it's job, and it doesn't overheat, then the engine shouldn't be going over a certain temp (at least that is my common sense understanding, considering I know nothing about under the hood of a car). So, in the first 30 seconds, the engine can easily reach that temp. Of course the hood of your car doesn't feel hot, cause it takes more time for the heat to escape and transfer to other services... Again, I don't know... but that bit I said makes sense to me. Then again, what do I really know? :p
