Cold Air Intake

Someone please help with this subject! I'm looking for a cold air intake but the only one I could find is from Injen. Does anyone else make them for a 2000 Protege w/ a 1.6 liter engine? If anybody knows something let me know. And can you feel the diffrence in the performence of the car.:chug:

I would have to say the intake makes more sound then it does HP, i personnaly noticed a small increase in top end nothing serious though. It sounds damn cool though

Go w/ the injen intake I have one in my P5 and love it, I would also recommend the Apexi power intake filter to go along w/ it.

Thanks for all your help guys. I thinking of goin with Injen for are intake. Just one more thing in the Injen website it mentions THE DANGERS OF WATER! That it could suck in througth the intake I know I could install a Bypass but will that actually work?

I think buying a bypass valve is a waste personally  since a bypass valve robs horsepower b/c it is letting cold air out so if you get that then you might as well get an SRI because the CAI won't be that functional. Personally I have the Injen CAI and I don't have the bypass valve since my intake is well hidden under my fenderwall and I've been driving in the craziest stroms and everythings been ok. The only way water is going to get into your engine is if your driving through a lake or if you stop under a huge puddle and rev the crap out of your car to suck in water. If you worried about water I would recommend a splash/heat shield that injen sells this well prevent water from splashing on the filter and won't rob any of your hp.

aerophlo January-5th-2004 11:53 PM

yea, the way the injen cold air intake is set up, the filter is located in a virtually splash/leak proof compartment.....so there is no need to worry, unless like Sub said u plan on driving through lakes

Don't you need to configure the exhaust as well to match the equivalent of a ram-air velocity stack?
There's a formula to help you do this, but hell if I remember it.
Taller stacks pull up the top end, and shorter the low end.
A lot of this is also in relation to cam durations as well.
Maybe a chip re-program?
This P5 is our first new car in a while, so if I'm off let it go, but if I'm right feel free to support it.

A while back somebody mentioned that their car started to hesitate when he whould hit 70mph? It was here were I saw the post it was a while back. Has anyone had this problem.

skr33t_rac3r January-7th-2004 10:02 AM

u have to be driving through flood water to get that intake to start sucking water so the bypass is worthless

I have'nt heard of anybody calculating a formula, the rule of the exhaust size piping is 2.25'' for N/A applications and 2.5'' or 3'' for turbo applications.

Nope, I have hit 85mph w/ my Injen CAI and the car did'nt hesitate one bit. That problem is probably due to the fact that maybe the person did'nt reset their ecu when they installed the CAI so the computer changed up the air/fuel mixture causing problems.

aerophlo January-7th-2004 02:22 PM

how do u reset the ecu? cuz i think i've been having that problem actually....it's when the car jerks right?

macdaddyslomo January-7th-2004 02:30 PM

simple....just disconnect the battery and step on the brake like 3 seconds...then reconnect and woila!! reset ECU
