check engine light problem for 2001 protege lx 2.0

help! i've taken my car in 4 times and i'm still having problems. first time-check engine light on, some hesitation. i was told i needed a tune-up and fuel injection cleaning. code was showing random misfire. 2nd time-cel on again, car sputtering. i was told it was bad gas, so they put some dry gas in the tank. 3rd time-car stalled while stopped and preparing to turn, check engine light stayed on. they reset codes and said car was not showing problems i indicated. 4th time-car sputtered, cel on, car started shaking badly while at stop light. sulfur smell released. car taken to dealership-told tune-up, plugs, everything ok. timing belt replaced (non-related). 5th time-car sputtered, cel stayed on. this is driving me crazy. has anybody had similar problems? the check engine light seems to come on about 10 minutes into my trip when the car is warmed up. my car has 60,000 miles on it and up until the past month, has been great. is this a sensor problem? any help is greatly appreciated.

next time the light comes on go to autozone have them pull the code...write the number and tell us what it is.

make sure you dont have any wires from your own mods or sound system that are interferring with your electrical stuff (thats the problem i had). Also did you have anything rebuilt like transmission or engine parts, if you did, there might be some computer interferrence with new parts and their electronics.

What he said...tell us what code it's throwing

the code was P0300-random/multiple cylinder misfire detected

macdaddyslomo March-16th-2005 06:44 PM

That's the reason why it has taken multiple trips..Although the dealer should have test drove to verify the prob is fixed...P0300 could be multiple probs...bad ignition coil, dirty maf, vacuum leak,dirty/clogged fuel filter, bad gas,bad PCV,bad EGR...

is it pretty easy to clean the maf and other sensors yourself? anyone used CRC QD Electronic Cleaner? i figured i'd give it a shot...worth a try, but wanted to see if anyone else had used it.
