Check engine light!

yeh, well i was driving to work, and suddenly the check engine light came on. i went to the gas station near by but the guy didnt know english. so tomorrow my dad and i are goin to his mechanic, does anybody know what might be the problem? my car dosent clank or make noises. thanks

wow....need a LOT more information than just "my check engine light came on, what is it?". I suggest buying a universal code reader to keep track of your own CEL codes or you can visit a local auto partss tore and ask them to pull the code for you.

Nobody could tell you what the problem is unless you specified the exact code that you pull from the ECU. Autozone usually does this for free BTW. No need to pay a mechanic to do it.

you'll never believe this, it was the fucn gas cap was loose.

Maybe they need to make a separate "check gas cap" light. That way people won't freak out thinking something is wrong with their engine...

My Fiance used to get a CEL frequently for this issue...

Proper in-tank pressure and venting through the cabon casiter is important for emissions reasons. Simply put, fuel that is allowed to evaporate into open air rather than be absorbed in the evaporative emissions system (carbon canister) contributes to green house gases.

That's why out west, some of the gas stations have these ridiculous spring loaded sheaths over the pump, that you have to compress against the side of the car before it will let you fill her up. Makes trying to fill up your motorcycle a lot of fun. But these sheaths capture the fumes of the fuel as it is being pumped.
