changed battery questions

Hi,
Put in a new battery today, my friend helped. Noticed that when I had the key in the ignition it beeped instead of a constant sound, what is that supposed to mean?
I then drove around a little and also noticed when I turn the fan on the headlights dimmed. I did clean off the connector cables before connecting to the new battery. I can't be 100% sure that my headlights didn't already dim with the other battery, it was the factory installed one and this is the first replacement.
have a mazda protege 5 2002.
thanks!
Paula

Did your alternator/regulator fail - causing your battery to go bad?

if so - the new battery will die also. :(

Check the voltages before starting and after starting (@3000rpms)

No, the battery was just old. The battery had been subjected to 2 summers in arizona and 2 winters in the northeast. It was still starting but was on its last leg when I had it tested. I was just preparing for another winter since last winter it needed more jumps than a fresh battery would in -0 temperatures.

Dude your new battery will have to be run for a while so that your alternator starts charging it. when igot my motomaster Battery from Canadian tire, my car lights dimmed, almost stalled. and i think shut off once. i said to myself, WTF. haha

but then i thought hey its probably depleted.

let the car run for a while and you should be fine.

If its still shot, then pop the old one back in and drag it back .

sounds good. did your ignition switch beep the first time you put the key in it...is that just your car saying what did you do?
