CAI question
 

I just installed my cai from kargoboy and it works great. Now my question is, people have been telling me that I should not run a cai in the winter and I live in Colorado so it gets snowy here from time to time, should I take it off? What are the chances I will suck in snow or water? It would suck to take it off now but I dont want to destroy my engine.

I live in Iowa and we probably get just as much snow throughout the winter and I'm keeping mine on.

Snow shouldn't be a big worry for you, but if you get lots of rain then you might wanna watch out for big puddles. The only thing you really need to worry about is actually submerging the whole air filter in water and sucking mass quantities of water into your engine. That would not be good ... at all. You really can't suck up snow through the filter -- and since there's virtually no way for it to get around the filter since the fender is closed up by the plastic splash guards, you shouldn't worry about it much. As far as rain goes, even if it does rain a lot and there are big puddles around, you'd literally have to go through about a foot of water in order for the water level to reach the air filter. That's a lot of rainfall.

Overall, hydrolock is a very hard thing to do ... although it happens it can easily avoided if you know how to drive smart. Now if you ever do go through lots of water and even have the slightest suspicion of hydrolock happening, immediately slap it in neutral and turn off the car right away. Pull over to the side and check to see if the filter is soaked. Let it dry off a bit and continue your journey. Better safe than sorry right..?

thanks for the advice. I will leave mine on. But I was going to lower my car, 1.5in in front 1.8in in back. Would that make matters worse?

Why not wait and lower it in the spring?

It would make a difference of a couple inches, but still not anything you should be overly concerned about. My car is dropped 1.5" all around and I plan on keeping everything the way it is throughout the winter, although it would probably be much better if I went to stock suspension until spring. You should definately wait and do the spring install after all the snow though, it should make your winter driving a little easier on you.
