CAI and clear corner suggestions

Hello,

Im new here and this car is my first mazda product. I have a 2000 Protege ES, 5 speed that I just picked up a week ago.

I spent the last 5 years modding my mustang, but have a family now and needed a 4 door.

I was looking for suggestions on the best cold air intake kits for these cars as well as clear corners. Where to get the best prices and what brands do you recommend.

thanks

the best CAI is Injen, but it's also one of the most expensive. It's worth it though.

Yeah, I just ran across the Injen, it does look nice. About how much can you get one for?

Where can you buy JDM corners?

They usually run about $270, but I have seen some sell as low as $200. You just have to lookk around and do A LOT of searching.

They are very expensive, but worth it. I'm going to change my APC ones to these soon. I don't even no why I got corner lens from APC. Silly me.

Whats wrong with the APC ones?

Is anybody familiar with the ones crutchfield sells? They are like $62.00, but I dont know who makes them?

Mach 1, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

You mean, whats NOT wrong with the APC ones?

They get condensation EASILY and fog up. They don't look nowhere as good as the JDM ones. The APC material is like plastic compared to the clear, crystal look of the JDM ones. My headlights and my corner lights are both hyperwhite. Because of the APC corners it looks like two seperate color lights. It makes the hyperwhite lights look dingy.

Ok, appreciate the welcome and all the good feedback.

I told myself I wouldnt mess with this car after dumping many thousands into my mustang, but a cold air kit and clear corners never hurt anybody, right?

Lol...anyway, I was amazed at the shape and configuration of the stock mazda air intake! What an abortion that thing is. Is there any reason for its huge and odd shape? Probably noice reduction?

redrims November-15th-2002 01:53 AM

Yeah, its only for noise reduction.

I just put in my Injen today. It's wonderful, the sound is great. The engine has a nice deep growl now and the good old butt dyno can feel a difference with it. Can't wait to add the exhaust and complete the intake/exhaust set-up.

I got mine at http://www.adventon.com the site isn't much too look at but the price was right. It came promptly. I also talked to one of the guys on the phone to verify that they had the color I wanted in stock and didn't have a problem.

Cool, thanks. Does the Injen kit have a mounting provision for the Intake air temperature sensor?

If you have a 1.6, its incorporated into the MAF meter, but not on the 1.8's.

Yes, it has a pre-drilled hole for it, and you just use the factory grommet.

The problem with the 1.6 injens is that the 1.6's MAF is shit to begin with. They are not a collar type where it's one big piece that fits a hose on either end. They use the intake hose with a hole cut out at the side to mount the thing. On the stock hose it's fine, since it's plastic and they have a better way of sealing. On the injen, which is metal, it has a harder time sealing on the smooth surface. What you'll need to do is get some good sealant or gasket and sandwich it between the MAF and the pipe and you should be fine.

The 1.6's have a recalled MAF, FYI.

So this problem that you mention is 1.6 specific, and doesnt apply to the 1.8??
