A/C Refill

I was reading my warranty manual to refresh my memory, and it states in there that A/C is covered for 12 months after the purchase of the car. Now, I haven't used my A/C all that much, but thought that if it's free, it'd be nice to get topped up before the 12 months is up (end of June).

Do you guys think that they will refill it for me?
Before I call and make a jackass outta myself, I just wanted some opinions.

Thanks!
:D

Your A/C shouldn't need a refill since it's operation doesn't reguire consumption of refridgerant like the engine requires gas. If it is low on refridgerant then you have a leak.

If you complain that there is a problem with the AC they will check it out. Actually your AC is covered for the 36/50k warranty. But coolant is only covered 12/12. You probably won't have a leak or anything but if you think it isn't working right have them look at it.

Ok...let me set this straight. I was under the impression that when you used your A/C, you were using refrigerant up. Apparently not.

So, I was only saying that since I'm a cheap MoFo, that under my old thinking that I was using A/C refrigerant, that I would get them to top it off before my 12 months were up.

So, it sounds like when you use the A/C, no refrigerant is being used and I do not need a refill ever?

The refrigerant simply expands and compresses. As it's compressed, it gives off heat, and is it expands it uses heat and thereby makes the air around it colder. Since it simply repeats this cycle over and over it isn't used up in the process. So unless you have a leak in the system, you shouldn't need a charge.
