"Bumpy" reflection on car
 

I noticed today that on some parts of my P5, the relfection was "bumpy". What I mean by "bumpy" is that the reflection itself looks bumpy, not the feel of the car. The paint/clear coat is smooth like it should be, but the reflection is "bumpy" or wavey. I noticed this today because of the great weather that we finnaly have, since the sun hasnt been this bright in a while. On the hood of the car, like most cars, your reflection or anything else is smooth, mirror like. One of the areas that I noticed the "bumpy" reflection was on the back between the passenger door and the hatch. Does anyone know if this is normal? or does anyone else have this on there P5?

Thats exacty what it looks like, its not on the bottom of the car, it starts from the roof and goes down to the bumper between the back passenger door and the hatch. Any ideas what I shoud do? Will this burn me in the long run? Did this come from the factory like this, or does it happen over time and gets worse? :dunno:

have the dealer take a look at your car. also while your there take a look at some new protege5's and compare them to your car.

Didn't the bright yellow for the Protege 5 have some problems? I'd take it to teh dealer and scream for a new paint job if it's bubling up after a month or so of ownining it.

Well, its not really "bubbling up". Its just that the paint looks like a orange peel. This is not on the entire car tho, but its odd that I never noticed it before. It actually looks pretty cool, but if its going to hurt me in the long run, I would like to know.

Anyone know about this or have seen this on other cars?

My MP5 is the same way in the back, only it is silver, I noticed this while washing it today. I don't think it is a big deal though, probably just how the paint was laid or something. I am gonna check out some at the dealer and see if this is "normal". But the paint still looks good, so I am not gonna make a deal out of it unless I see other MP5's that look perfect.

Orange peel will not hurt your paint durability. It just shows a lack of a perfect paint process by Mazda on the Protege.

Orange peel is not normal on new cars, specially if it's only on a section of the car like just in a quarter panel. The finish should be smooth all the way around. Closely inspect your car for damage. Car dealers are supposed to disclose any repairs done a new vehicle before they sell it, but they don't.

I had several cars brought over to my detail shop to remove orange peel, which can be acomplished by water sanding the area and polishing it. But all the cars had orange peel on an area that was repainted.

Like I said in my previous post, it it looks fine, and it doesnt feel "bumpy" it just looks that way when something is reflected off of it. Its fine with me, as long as it wont hurt me in the long run. I agree with you, it looks like it was done when the paint was laid. This shouldnt effect the durablity in the long run.

When someone refers to the paint being "orange peel", does this mean that the texture (feel) of the body is orange peel? The body of my car is smooth, but the refection is not. I just want to get this straight before I go to the dealer... :bt:

Do you have any pictures to help us understand what you're saying about the paint? I haven't noticed anything bumpy on my car except for this annoying door ding some dipshit put smack dab next to my mirror on my driver's side door. :mad:

My car is not bumpy, its smooth as silk. Its just that the reflection of anything looks bumpy or "orange peel" looking.
