Who else (brands) uses T-304 stainless steel and gives a warrenty similar to Borlas? 1 million miles?

The 2 orders is placed and the Borla system is on its way :)

It will be installed on a stock 2001 protege ES (134 hp)
and a intake/ECU flashed 2001 protege ES (142 hp)
both will be dynoed for performance gains

Anyone wanna give me any personal experience with Borla?

surprisingly we got them at a hell of a deal so I am trying to see if its worth all the proformance hype from the import mags.

where are you getting those power claims from? That can't be WHP....I've seen HEAVILY modifed 2.0Ls only making 120-130whp.

Your right Rod, its not wheel horse power, this calculation was made by a dyno / ECU (output) software projection designed by a friend at mazda japan, I somewhat refered to this before when we were benchmarking the proteges for the spark plug tests. "Typical driveline efficiencies are quoted between 80 and 85% for the average vehicle so this is a flywheel"

but i will post the actually regular dyno whp results.

but about the borla, would you say they are the in the elite top ranks of cat backs?

I really like them--AFAIK I thought they also made the Mazdaspeed ones. I hope to get one for my P5 but can't find a Borla.

call borla, inquire about the mounting points ofthe P5, see if there is some leyway ?

who knows, I knwo they have a Mazda 3 version now

If they have a mazda 3 sport version..there must be a way to get it on a P5 without TOO much modification

well I was thinkin a direct port from the Sedan version would be enough, plus i think the Mazda 3 has the exhaust on the left side tail end. not the right.

but I am sure the mazda p5 and the sedan match up?

I have the borla cat-back exhaust system on my MP3 and i love it. at first i was skeptical b/c it did not have the sound i was wanting. however after about 100 miles or so the exhaust system broke into it's nice rumble. I love it b/c it does give it an extra ommmfff but as far as a number i couldn't tell you. but there is a definate power gain. It almost looks stock (3" exhaust tip) but the piping was the same as my old exhaust system 2 1/4" but it breaths better hence more power. I definatly recommend the borla. as far as any other it would have to be magnaflow cat-back or the mazdaspeed cat-back. both of which are stainless steel however no one out there has the million mile gaurantee. hey Focal how hard of a time did you have ripping the stock system off , vs installing the borla? did you do it yourself?

it really wasn't that difficult. The only problem I had was when I removed the Racing Beat Exhaust. I wanted to keep it in tact so I used a Whizz Wheel to cut it right before the joint to the Axle Back. Installing took like 15 mins. <<NOTE: When installing the exhaust be sure to put NEVER (ANTI) SEAZE on the bolts. It also helps to use some type of cutting tool (Pnumatic or otherwise).>> Other than that it was a total of 2.30 hrs. It took me longer b/c the bolts were rusted on it and My buddy forgot he had the Whizz Wheel so I was using a Hack Saw until he remembered. But if you have an air powered saw or electric probably 1hr or so.

is it true this kit will only work with 2001? I have been asking around and every vendor says 2001 only,

are the mounting points any different on the later models

nope, all the same....only difference is the MSP and P5.

funny almost all the websites out there with the protege borla is only saying 2001 only, I swear they are shooting themselves inthe foot by making would be customers think twice.

Well anyways, I am going to havefun ripping off this old stock pipe, damn son of a bitch is got some battle damage (crack in the main pipe)


I am not an expert, but with this borla brand help throughout the rev range or will there be a top or lower end benefit?
