for sedan, or protege5? either one, you can crack them open and paint them yourself

KrayzieFox October-9th-2007 07:55 AM

Canadian Protege5's came with them from factory, so you could get them from a Can. dealership and pay an arm and a leg, or try to find them used on one of the forums such as this one.

^ or paint 'em, thats what i did (but i sux, need to redo them)

njaremka October-9th-2007 12:54 PM

My 03 ES sedan came with them. You can also get sets off eBay that have clear corners as well as the black surround.

defined as $800USD for the pair (retail pricing if I recall correctly)

That's why I still have just one Canadian headlamp and one painted USDM 92k mile pitted to hell headlamp :tear:

protege sedan

do you think that the protege sedan would fit on to a p5 i know that the wiring doesnt but would about the overal apperance would it seat flush or not? have any suggestion on how to do that or how to paint it because im affraid its going to come out looking like crap and then im out fo a good pair of head lamps.

_Kansei_ October-9th-2007 11:19 PM

Yeah the lights will fit just fine. So you have a P5 and want to put the black sedan headlamps on? If you just hook them right up, they will work ok.. low beams and turn signal lamp will work fine. You'd have to unravel the covering on the headlamp wiring harness and move a wire from the high beam harness over to the low beam harness to have both low and high beams working, and to get the little corner light to work, you can disconnect the one on the side of your bumper.. just twist and remove from that, and pull that up into the engine bay and twist to lock it in to the sedan headlamp housing.

all in all, much easier than doing the opposite (installing Protege5 headlamps on a sedan.

What a pain that would be. Besides, the Protege5 has much nicer headlights, and are more HID friendly (dont have to buy a bi-xenon kit).

Keep your eyes on the forums, and a pair of black P5 ones will turn up eventually.

Like those ones we missed out on from iMazda for $40 or $50 :(

Well you shouldn't just slap HIDs into your headlights either way, because it will blind people unless you really get them adjusted properly, and even then it's still more glare than any car on the road with HIDs from the factory.

The problem with the sedan headlights lies in the single bulb design. You'd have to get much more expensive HIDs that are bi-xenon. They are more complicated, way more prone to failure, etc.

The only good way to put HIDs into a Protege is via a projector retrofit .. check this to see a nice Protege retrofit job:

Damn, those look good. I might just order me a pair for my BOS (Big Orange Siren). Thanks Kansei.
