Best Turbo-kit for automatic???

Alright I have an automatic, so I can really put the kind of turbo I want in it so Im gonna have to go with a Stage 1 from Flyin Protege. Anyone else have this, or can tell me exactly how much power I should get. Oh yeah and im new here and live in Gainesville, FL originally near Orlando.

I have an automatic and the essentialspeed kit, I gained roughly 95 or so whp.

You might also wanna change your topic its not very specific

EDIT, changed name of thread!

95hp is 100% increase in power over stock! You can't argue with that! I wonder if the gains would be higher with a 5spd? Also, Mark yours is a stage 2. I'm looking into the stage 1. Whats the difference in boost?

mark, which style manifold did you get? tubular or log style? i'm looking into having them make me a tubular manifold for my bpt, curious about their quality of work.

i don't think flyin protege makes a kit for the auto.

but too much torque will cause the tranny to break, so all you can really get for an automatic is Stage 1. If not Flyin then HiBoost

Hey roddimus, if yur gonna go turbo, def go with the Flyin protege kit...It is actually manufactured by Bell Engineering and was designed by the one and only Corky Bell...If you wanna know anything about aftermarket turbo its pretty much in his book, Maximum Boost...right now its the most tried and true proven kit out there. It should work on the auto with the stage one, otherwise you need to beef up the tranny. If you do a search I believe another member posted a link to a website that had parts to do this... You def do get more output with a 5 speed. Big recommendation though would be the Mazdaspeed LSD(a steal at $450) and the mazdaspeed axles, they are beefier than stock, plus a stage one clutch as the stock clutch will just slip like crazy with the added power. The G series tranny will pretty much detonate after 200+ whp without some beefing up unless you baby the hell out of the tranny, and then whats the point of all the added power??

I'm not looking for a race car. I'm just looking to add a little bit of power CHEAPLY to my already nice car. I think the Essentialspeed Stage 1 kit will be just fine. It adds almost 100% more power for only $2600. You can't beat that. I have plenty of other fast cars to make into race cars.

That's a pretty good deal....be careful though as that essentialspeed kit hasnt had as much testing as the BEGI kit....plus say bye-bye to your warranty...What does the essentialspeed kit use for fuel control ?? a RRFPR ?? and is it intercooled ?

markmurray77 November-14th-2003 02:41 AM

Yeah its more or less a stage 2, I catually got a larger intercooler added and had all the parts coated. A stage one should give you around 6 or so psi giving you a 60hp jump. Maybe a bit more. The stage 2 is like 8-10psi for 95 hp gain.

Manifold is log style which is fine with the small turbo. It builds boost at 2200rpm on an auto. I will be getting a tube style equal length made for my upgrade soon buty I will also be adding a larger turbo. Their quality is great, nice welds and show finish, looks really nice coated too.

As for the reliablity of the kit and motor I have 45K boosted so far no problems. If you do proper maintenance you should be fine. They use a vortech FMU which should be fine for low boost applications. Any higher and a piggy back should be used if not a full stand alone with timing control
