Bad oxygen sensors = major bucks
 

Took my '99 LX in 'cause it's been overdue for its timing belt change and it's been knocking so I wanted to try to get away with a minor tune-up... oh, yeah, and there's the check engine light that's been on for a few weeks as well...

The verdict is that I've 2 dead oxygen sensors (apparently there's one before and after the cat). Worse is that there are no aftermarket sources for these and one of them is like $400 (without labor)!! I can't remember what he said the other cost 'cause I went into shock at that point. :eek:

Anyone else run into this yet? And I've not even done the timing belt yet 'cause it also had to be ordered. (It'll be in Mon/Tues) Dammit! This is gonna be approaching a grand all around!! :eek:

hey eflat and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Maybe you can get them from a junkyard. Although they aren't always cheapers. I broke my taillight on my last car and the junkyard wanted more than the dealer for a new one.

That could have to do with the fact that taillights are a pretty demanded part for junkyards to sell, considering that with most rear end crashes there will be damage to the taillight. The oxygen sensors aren't as commonly needed, so I would imagine that you could find those cheaper than what the dealer is asking for. I recently had to replace the power door lock actuator in the driver side rear door and paid about 1/3rd of what the dealer wanted. Junkyards are fickle.

If I recall correctly, all o2 sensors are the same ex. the number of wires and connector. If you can find out wich wire is what on your o2 then you could splice the connector and spend about $60 on a o2. .....4 wires.........signal, ground,heater and something?

Looks like I'm just gonna have to suck it up, eh? Also having the timing belt done and probably do brakes later this fall, just drives up my "cost of ownership" for the year...

Ahhh, it' only money...(but quite a chunk!)
