Automatic to Titronic?

Not sure if thats the correct spell (titronic) .. but just wondering .. could it be possible.. for an automatic P5's transmition to be converted into titronic version? ..

With enough money it is entirely possible.

MarkSpark Apr 19, 2003 08:52 AM

Tiptronic

seriosly i would also like to find out about this

mito7878 Apr 19, 2003 04:02 PM

Yes it is possible. The only problem is the cost of the switch. Also you really wont gain that much performance increase.

PhotoPro5 Apr 19, 2003 04:40 PM

It would be more cost effective to swap in a manual gearbox. Not to mention smarter, faster...blah blah blah.

i'm kinda wondering bout this too cuz just like the otha guy i was extreemly pissed to find out right after i bought my p5 they were bringing in the triptronic system...now how much would it be to switch them? if i could switch to manual i would but my legs are too long, if you can fix that then i'm all for manual but how much for the triptronic do you think?

mito7878 Apr 19, 2003 07:56 PM

All I said is that it is possible which it is and also I think I was pretty clear about the fact that it wouldnt be cost effective. But thank for the extra details on the ECU. I think we are in agreement that Cost is the major factor.

The only problem is the cost of the switch.

And fake tits? whats that about?

i think the shifter just as 2 detector switches so if you rewire
the detection momentary switches to the steering wheel, you
can probably make it work. if you get like a Sparco Flash
steering wheel, you can make the right button shift up and
left button shift down or something. the main problem you will
run into is how to are going to go about running the wires
into the steering wheel without the coil harness assy.

imo, unless you have butterfly type tabs behind the steering
wheel, pushing small buttons on the steering wheel is hard to
do while driving fast through a corner...

i would just leave it as is on the shifter lever. :p

dude, i got a quote from my dealer on changing from auto to triptronic and its 3500cdn which is soooooooo not worth it...so much for that plan eh. :(

00blunt Apr 28, 2003 09:20 PM

yah but is it a standard...see the whole point of lookin into triptronic for me was because i love manual cars but the price was right on the p5 and i love the car but my legs are too long to shift the manual properly...when i tried it out my right foot covered the gas and half the brake, and when i shifted my knees were up by my ears....but yer right 3500 bucks is alot better spent on: bodykit or engine or whatever but not something as minor as this.
