Anyone with this problem?

I really detail my wife's car once a month and notice glue or some type of tar on the hood, and roofline of the car.

I buff it off with some Polish and Cleaner, rewax the car and it comes back. Mazda said it's normal, but I think it's annoying.

More then likely its axle/trailer hitch grease if you do allot of highway miles

Ya it's nothing to worry about. I get it too, just use a degreaser or one of those crystal cleaners.

They are string looking. sometimes feathering looking. It's not black but more gray'ish color.

I've noticed that on my car too. I think it is from the protective plastic wrap that came on the car from the factory. I've had my car for 9 months now and I still notice some of it from time to time. I've used turtle wax bug and tar remover on it and it seems to do a pretty godd job on it. The turtle wax has a wax base to it and it's not abrasive at all so no worries on messing up the paint.

It's this stuff here :D

I had the same problem but only when my car was new. It was residue from the adhesive that holds the white plastic sheeting that covers the cars during shipping. I couldn't get it to buff off, paint cleaning clay didn't work, so I used a Ditzler prep solvent, a professional wax and grease remover body shops use prior to painting. I haven't painted a car in years but it is great stuff to have on hand, cuts thru just about everything. Wax thoroughly afterwards, of course.

Doc's right...it's from the wrap that they put on the hood to protect it while it is in transit to the dealership.

When I first got my car I noticed it too. I was going to take it back to them to clean it off, but it seemed to go away on its own, but it must have been either a) Meguiar's cleaner wax, or b) Nu-finish. Both products were applied prior to my "Autopia" days where I've now learned about much better products to use.

I think if you found some 3M adhesive revmover, that would easily take off the stuff you're talking about. Also, isopropyl alcohol would work....the bug and tar remover is also a good thing to try.

Just remember, after using any of the above, wax the hood again. It's likely that you'll remove at least a little wax by using the aforementioned products, so a quick wax wouldn't hurt.

I had that crap on the car as well... when they took the wrap off they did not remove all the sticky stuff. In the end a professional detailing solved the problem (I got the dealer to pay for part of it too as I considered proper prep of the car to include no sticky crap on the finish).
