Anyone heard of the Unichip? ECU piggyback
 

Anyone heard of it, saw it for sale at driverfx.com for proteges

they made claims via phone that protege WOT problem is not an issue with this product.

I have heard (Matty back me up here) they were not that good, but then again I did see the dyno sheet on the MSP w/ 10 PSI, cat-back, and CAI gain like 30bhp....what the hell is BHP?? Is it hp at the crank or what...

BHP is brake horsepower. It is how power is normally listed for engines.

so what does that translate into for whp?

As discussed in another thread, when translating, the loss of HP through the drivetrain is a percentage, usually around 30%. So 30% of 30bhp, would be 10, being a gain of around 20WHP...

The only Unichip I have seen on a protege is on a MSP ONLY. It was a plug and play set-up with the only wiring required is for your boost controller. I have no experience with these but I do know Ying (NoClue119) has one on his MSP and says they show no dyno gain only a smoother operation with no stumble or hesitation that the MSP's suffer from.

the unichip is not user-tuneable and will need to be adjusted for EVEY mod you make to the car. Your best bet is to mod your car how you'd like and THEN have the unichip tuned for it.

Thats as much as I can tell you about it. I've NEVER seen the unichip on anything other than a MSP.

The Unichip has made decent gains on customer's cars and that's convinced me its the best tuning solution for my needs. And there are tuners in both cities I live in, so its going to be easy to have the unit custom tuned. I've seen dynos of ~220whp on a MSP w/ exhaust, intake and FMIC at 10psi using the UC and I plan to tune for 230whp at 10psi this summer. For someone like me who doesn't want to deal with constant tuning and likes the plugNplay feature I think its the best tuning option available. The eManage and MPITuner require too much tuning for my taste.
