Anybody consider a Sentra SE-R?
 

Did anybody consider a Sentra SE-R before p[urchasing their Protege sedan, or even their P5 (even though they are different kinds of vehicles)?

If I had been more patient, it is likely that I'd be driving an SE-R or Protege MP3 now. I bought my 5 in june last year when niether of these cars were to market yet. My conly complaint about the SE-R is the ass end- its too round and sloped off.

hmm, i thought the mp3 came out b4 the p5? as for me, the only nissan for me up until recently was the maxima. (but for some reason the lower altima has better specs now???) sentras are okay, but was never a consideration.

I would have bought one instead of the P5 but it wasn't out yet.

I didn't consider the Sentra SE-R when I bought mine, but my ES is a '99, so the Sentra was still the old body style.

However, I did take a look at it when it came out. Power and handling were nice, but that was about it for the car. I hated the driver's seat and that orange-red accented interior! Although handling was nice, it wasn't as linear as the Protege and was a bit softer than I prefer. I also found the interior materials of the Protege to be of a better quality, but I thought the interior design was nice. However, the Sentra felt a bit cramped inside, particularly the back seats. And, of course, I much prefer the Protege's styling. But that would be the only Sentra I would consider. I had a GXE has a rental a few weeks ago and it sucked!

Overall, I just found the Protege to be a better balanced car.

The SE-R was very high on my list. The P5's hatch, styling, and roomier back seat made the decision for me though. However I would have probably went with the SE-R if it came in a hatch/sport wagon version.

Good specs and all but it looks like the squished the front end of a Frontier. The Sentra, in all its forms, is definitely one strange looking car. I liked the subtle little growls coming from the hood lines on my Pro.

ya i would prob have bought a spec V but it wasn't out yet when i got my pro 5

i diddnt consider the plain se-r but i did think about hte se-r v spec but some one in town had one already and the dealership diddnt have plans on getting one in anytime soon but they tried hard as hell to get me into the shit box se- that thing sucks

I think it looks ugly. and no thrill in my opinion.

I was watching a review of it today on TV, and they said that the value on the Se-R (not the spec V) is much better. They also mentioned that in rain, the limited-slip diff initiates too much, so that even in third gear it transfers torque from one wheel to the other, causing then the other one to spin and making the car wobbly. They also complained about some interior stuff, but gave it full marks on performance.

I have to admit I think I would also have purchased the SE-R spec-v. In fact I could have if I just waited about 2months. Problem is that I was way to impatient and I really wanted a new car. When I saw the P5 I new I had to have one, right there and then. Don't get me wrong I love my car, I think it is an awsome car. It looks much better than the Sentra hands down, and is more practical. However you definitly get more bang for the buck with the SE-R. Really nice factory stereo, lots of power, limited slip differential, 6-speed tranny, and 17" wheels. I have no doubt that there will be much more after market parts for the car as well. Currently I am some what regretting not waiting for the SE-R because I really want more power, but I think that in the long run I will be more happy with the P5.

I think Nissan really cheaped out by employing a beam axle in the back of the Spec-V as opposed to a multi-link rear suspension. Also, the interior the the Spec-V is just NASTY!! IMO, the Pro looks much more stylish than the Sentra does anyway. :cool:

Whatever anyone here says, please do not compliment the six speed transmission on that car. The cornering and power are good, but that tranny sucks. My roomate has it and it is abhorrent. It is clunky, unresponsive, and the clutch engagement feels like there are knots in the cables. Blah, take-offs with that car almost snap your neck because they are so jerky, its only once you have reached second that the heat really comes on. And if you don't believe me, ask C&D. That car probably would have beat the MP3 if it hadn't been for the transmission. They must have put 10 minutes of engineering into it. Does anybody know if this transmission is used elsewhere (like in the Infiniti?)

I didn't seriously consider the SE-R because the back seat is too small.
