Welcome to the forum. This has been talked about a lot, i also have a 1.6, and feel your pain. Try using the search at the top right of your screen, you will find tons of information. Good luck.

I have a slow ass 1.6 too. Not too much out there, but the engine is strong itself so a turbo isn't a bad idea. Ask "biknman" on the forums. Intake/Headers/Exhaust are available, but I have not seen anyone with headers on a 1.6. Headers are my next mod.

I have a 1.8 but I know that there is someone in this website who has a 1.6 with a turbo and the car is fast. I don't remember who he is but try and search for him, I'll try and find who he is.

Im just leavin mine stock for now, and workin on the extiror.
Im thinking of getting the zl-de heads and a cold air intake.
But you cannot beat a good turbo, im just watin for a decent kit to come out.

I have a 1.6l too, the engine is bone stock and it will probably stay that way...except maybe for a custom exhaust and intake. My performance mods will all be related to the car's handling/suspension wich I feel is where I would get the most out of my money, there's no point in trying to make this car "fast" in a straight line.

Exactly, so why in the world would you throw the money away for a custom exhaust and intake?

Has anyone added a Nitro Kit to their 1.6L? If so, describe.

I am seriously in need of more power, and I think that is the cheapest alternative (other than getting a engine swamp (2.0L) from a newer Protege write-off)

Protege_Joe April-25th-2003 10:27 AM

YOU CAN MAKE ANYTHING FAST IN A STRAIGHT LINE WITH A LITTLE NOS;) :p :D AND EVERYTHING "STOCK" IS SLOW...IN THE 4 CYCLE. WORLD....AND YOU SEE HOW FAST PEOPLE MAKE THEM CIVICS...AND THE EX IS JUST A 1.7 LITER...I HAVE A 1.6 LITER AND I PLAN TO MAKE IT A CIVIC KILLER:p

I said *maybe; the exhaust is very likely because I hate the stock muffler and since I'm going to get a fart can I might as well go all out and get new piping and remove the second cat while I'm at it, I'm looking for a deep throaty sound...not the ricer angry bee kind.

As for the intake, I would get it because of the sound and the fact that it makes the engine bay look nicer, if I do get any hp gains then it's all good :D , if I do get one it will probably be one of those cheap Ebay intakes for the 2.0l, I only have to make a couple of mods to make it fit. But I'm NOT getting the injen....paying over 200$ for less than 5hp (at best) is ridiculous.

1.6L Blows

Everyone thanks for your help i was planing on buying CAI and headers, but most of you seem to think that it would not be worth my money. So i was wondering if maybe someone has some good news about the 1.6L and maybe if anyone has done a engine swap with this motor, was it hard to do? was it worht it? and anything think else that would be helpful thank you guys again.

Oh, your talking about a cold air intake air filter kit? I thought you meant intake manifold. I forgot where I was at..........

save your money if your doing it for power. if doing it for personal satisfaction or looks, go for it.

and its hard to get a deep throaty exhaust sound from 1.6 liters of fury...

sounds like you need a new car to play with...that would be my suggestion. Leave the protege for what it is, a reliable economy car, and get you something else to modify.

I agree we do got slow ass 1.6 as I do too. My exhaust though is pretty deep. It is not a fart can like a civic and all. I was planning in the future to put in the mazdaspeed protege engine. Would that fit?
