Amsoil here
 

I'm running on Amsoil 5-30 in my P5, I switched to Synthetic slowly mixing it in with reg. oil from 4500miles oil chnage on and fully switched at 10500miles , now I do change every 3-4 K miles and oil looks a little dirty (don't trust 25K miles like Amsoil says)
Oil filter, I use Pure One $5 a lot of filter for the money, If you want to keep your oil changes to every 7K miles make sure that you will use highest quality filters (Mobil1 is really good at $11)
Don't over fill your engine with Pure One oil filter it only takes about 3.3 quarts (a little below max on dipstick)
Same with tranny make sure is not over filled.

I've heard mixing viscosities is alright, but I was told not to ever mix organic and synthetic oils. Is this correct, or what was the logic behind that info?

you can mix reg and blend, but not reg and synthedic. if you switch to synthedic, go it all at once, and once you goto synthedic, you can't go back.

Thats bullshit. Ive switched back and forth from synthetic to dino oil in a couple different cars with no problems what so ever.

something about the synthedic having the smaller particles it gets into the places that reg oil can't. then when you switch, the reg oil can't get to where the synthedic is, and it causes problems??? just know all the shops say don't mix and don't go back.

That doesnt even make sense. Are you mechanically inclined at all, or do you just listen to what the morons at the shops tell you?

If you fallow your logic, the so called "Blend" would not exist
if you mix synthetic with regular it becomes a blend. But if your shop says that the synthetic oil as smaller particules that goes where regular oil don't, would that mean that your engine would burn or leak oil more easily? In that way I could immagine the oil going thru (sorry for any spelling) the oil seals..

Just going on logic here and from what I heard from what I consider as good sources,but I could be wrong.;)
And by the way just signed my brand new pro es gt yesterday, I'll get it the 30th of april...can't wait to get it.

Synthetic oil come from tarsands and is synthesized to get top notch properties. Reg oil is not. Reg oil is pumped from the ground. Now whether or not mixing the two AT THE SAME TIME is good, is just some thinking involved. If the regular oil will break down at lets say, for comparison sake 100'C and synthetic breaks down at 150'C, and if your car hits 125'C, then obviously the combined oil in your car is not doing its job

Can you switch back to regular after using synthetic?

Yes... there is absolutely no reason you cant.


Does synthetic have smaller molecules?

Hell no. The size of the molecules is dependent on the viscosity of the oil you buy.


Is synthetic better?

It hasbetter PROPERTIES... but is not needed in any way. Youe engine says it needs 10 or 5 30 reular oil.... dont need synthetic then. Just like gas.... you only need 87 octane, so why use 90+? That is another argument all together.

Will you get better engine life if you use synthetic?
Who knows... I would personally say yes, if you drive your car hard and you might get up to over 1000000 miles on your car as opposed to 700000, but then again there is no proven test that shows synthetic will give you LONGER engine life... rather it is synthesized to give have better properties and withstand breakdown in your engine better then regular oil.
