air intake & high flow filter....

hi,
i m using K&N air filter, and thinking to get a air intake. does anyone run 1/4 mile with high flow filter or intake? what is ur time?
If air intake just pull a "little quicker" than high flow filter, i think i wont get one.

thank u

dont expect an intake or an air filter to make you any faster in a drag race.

Also, don't buy oiled filters like the K&N. I see more cars with problems running K&N's than anything else. The type of filter isn't as important as the condition of the filter.

If you're worried about drag racing times you should spend your time learning how to launch and shift as best as you can. That will be the biggest improvement.

You mean you have a drop in square K&N and want to get a short ram or cold air intake with a cone?

Prime is right. No real performance changes...but the intakes sound cool :)

my intake sounds real nice, but I swear I lost torque. I used to be able to rip the tire pretty good in second. Now I'm lucky if I get a chirp out of it.....it pulls harder on the top end though and sounds mean.

I just switched from a k&n drop in to a AEM short ram...no real gains, but the throttle response is noticable...as is the fun sounds. The dudes at jiffy lube were revving it off when there were suppose to be dealing with my tranny fluid.

since there is not much improvement, i think ill stay with my drop in K&N for a little longer.....
i will test the header i have ordered(essential speed equal length header) which i have waited for a month~and still not arrive yet............damn!!!!!!!!!!!
then decide to buy an intake or not......
thank u for the responses guys!!! ^^

wow, I hope the ES header makes 30whp for you.....cause they sure charged you like it would!

A SRI is good to get, even a CAI. The very least, it sounds good and cleans up the engine bay.

how well do those e-bay intakes work anyway?

Myk April-28th-2004 07:35 AM

When you really think about it a SRI or CAI is a bunch of bent pipe with a filter on the end. Its all about how well it all fits together. I've heard that the Ractive desn't fit well. Also the price depends sometimes on the filter.

I look at it this way, $300(Canadian) for an Injen CAI, fuck that! I just paid less than $100 for one of of e-bay. If the filter sucks, another $50 for a K&N replacemenmt.

I purchased the Ebay SRI for my P5 for $38 shipped to my door. I felt a noticeable loss of torque (lack of ability to shred second gear now) but for some strange reason my 1/8th mile times dropped almost a consistant .2s. It takes a lot to drop that much time. The only differece was the ebay intake....I'll let you draw your own conclusion!

Got the Purolator pick up slip on the door yesterday, should be the CAI.

I'll probably install it this weekend.

Filters

If you "notice" a difference driving with a filter or an intake its all in YOUR HEAD!! Other than a noise difference and maybe slightly better mpg you are probably looking at 3-9hp!

Roddimus Prime April-29th-2004 12:07 PM

no....I noticed a DISTINCT lack of torque in my P5....Like I mentioned earlier I used to be able to make 2nd spin about as much as 1st gear....now it's just a little chirp.

There was a deffinate change in the characteristic of my vehicle....however...losing a bit of torque for some top-end horsepower is fine by me as the P5 seems to have an abundance oflow end grunt already...

I concur.:D
