Aftermarket support for us is excellent!
Hi all
Another post prompted me to start this thread. Here it goes: I believe that 3rd gen Protege's have excellent aftermarket support. Almost everything is available except ECU and turbo kits, and those are in development. And do not whine about cam sprokets, they will come too. So far what I have compiled Tires/wheels-just go nuts-correct offset could be hard to find for 17"though Suspension/brakes: Mazdaspeed adjust struts KYB non adj struts Eibach springs Racing beat springs H&R Springs Intrax? Ground Control coilovers AWR full Bilstein/coilover kit AWR sway bar and control arm kit with bushings and shitload of other stuff for racing(like spherical bearing strut mounts) Strut tower braces(various) Ingalls camber bolts I am sure KVR has right size Brembo rotors in stock with carbon kevlar pads SSteel brake lines Engine/drivetrain: Mazdaspeed exhaust cam J-Spec intake cam J-spec intake manifold Mazdaspeed high compression pistons J-spec high compression pistons Underdrive pulleys AWR heavy duty radiator ACT clutch Pacesetter and B&M short throw shifters(ones from earlier models fit) Mazdaspeed chrome moly flywheel Indigo aluminum flywheel Injen and AEM intakes among others(Weapon R, and that carbon fiber thing) Exhaust systems: Borla Brullen Racing Beat Bosal Almost unlimited choice by virtually any manufacturer of universal mufflers-make your own system! Probably I missed a lot, but that's enough to turn your protege into monster. Do we really need 5 companies with questionable quality levels making coilovers for us?(WeaponR and Skunkshits are the examples-will never make way into my car!) Personally I am waiting for turbo kit. If I see nothing by the end of summer, PR5 goes bye bye and say hi to SAAB 9-3 2.0 l turbo. $1000 to change ECU and 240 hp at the crank, not bad eh? Alex |
flyingprotege.com makes a very good turbo for the protege 2.0's and in fact they actually tested it on a protege5 and it made more hp at the wheels than the mazdaspeed made at the crank.

There are currently turbos out there for our 3rd generations. Flyinmiata, hiboost and I think that there is one more company but I just cant remember.
