Aftermarket/manufacturer parts/accessories
 

Where can I find aftermarket/manufacturer parts/assecories for my Protege 5? I would like to buy a moonroof deflector, cargo net, and a car cover.

Is it better to buy these from the dealer? I figure it would be more money from the dealer, so is there any other place?

Also, ive read in other post that people buy Mazda certified oil filters, is this really necessary? How much do they go for anyway? Any help, thanks in advance.


P.S. How does the moonroof deflector attach to the car? Does it tape onto your roof?

You should get that stuff from a dealer. The discount isn't very significant and therefore you would not save much.

I've bought a moonroof deflector from them and it really cuts down the wind noise when it's open.

There is a small J shaped metal piece that hooks into the moonroof opening and then you tighten the screw on the deflector so that the J shaped piece pulls upward and the deflector gets secured down. It's pretty straight forward.

like Douggie said... the attachment of the delfector is a real simple process... got mine from www.mazdastuff.com.

I was checking out mazastuff's site and under the2001-2 Protege Performance section they had 17" wheels and some pedals. Are these the same as those on the MP3? If $270 is the price for 4 wheels, that's incredibly low priced!!! I sent them an email asking the same. I hope to get a reply from them soon.

Someone on ebay is selling all that stuff you mentioned. Do a search for "protege 5" and it should come up.

They're the same wheels and parts from the MP3. $270 is for one wheel. The pedal replacements are covers but are not for an automatic.

herls - I haven't seen a moonroof deflector on eBay since the one that ended last week. I came in two days ago. :bt:

What does the screws screw to? Does the roof or moonroof get damaged in any way?

I think I read somewhere about the deflector scratching the roof, is this true?

Anyone have any pics?

The screws screw to the J shaped metal piece. The only part coming in contact is the small J metal piece and the moonroof deflector itself. Before you put the J piece of metal on, there's a piece of tape (included) you can attach to the moonroof opening, so that the piece of J shaped metal does not scratch the paint at all.

As i said before, it's pretty straight forward, no drills or anything needed, just a screwdriver and some time. I don't see how it would scratch anything either.

mnkyboy, I know u have a new car, and u're worried about things, but I assure you that this is the least you should worry about. Come on, it's a Mazda factory accessory. Why would they design something that will harm the car? I definitely see parking lots with shopping carts as a higher car hazard than this :)

And i'm sure if you ask anyone that has the deflector, they would highly recommend it.
