ABS and e-brake light on
 

Hello, I have a P5 and it's been a couple of days these 2 lights have been occasionally coming on. Today, while trying to brake the abs system engaged for no reason and the lights stayed on. How can I test which wheel sensor is shot ?
Please explain procedure .....

Did u check the break fluid?

Yes, I checked fluid level. It's fine. I'm sure it's a speed sensor. It did the same thing on a previous Acura Integra.

just disable the ABS all together, its useless except in the snow, and even in the snow i'd much prefer to have the control over my car instead of just matting the brakes to the floor and hoping it stops in time...

That's the temporary solution (which I'm doing right now). But it is not the way to go. When you need to brake in wet or snow, I don't buy the crap about pumping the brakes in a high stress moment. The ABS in this car saved me 4 crashes up to now.
Again, can someone give me the procedure to test which wheel sensor is faulty ?

Weeellll.... If you are *sure* it is a wheel sensor - buy a new one and keep swapping positions until the code clears... It is not too hard and any specilaized test equipment would be at the dealership only.

It is what i would do - IF the sensor was cheap.

One more thought - if you had a crash and the insurance man (or court ;) ) found out the ABS was INOP it may not go well for you...

I couldn't agree more about the insurance. If I was an insurance inspector and saw a faulty ABS system, I would not fully pay the claim.
Any other way to test sensors without the use of an OBDIII test equipment ?

well the easiest way for someone with out a scan tool is if you have acsess to a digital volt meter.set it to the ohm scale and measure each wheel speed sensor with it unplugged from the car harness.measure between the 2 wires on the sensor side.all 4 should be about the same resitance.if one is off or more likley infianate that is probable the bad one.but it could be the moduel.you cant buy one and swap it around the car very easily.thay should be all different in mounting points

by the way just cheacked and it should be 1.3 to 1.7 kiloohms

Mazdaseniortech, that kohm range is the result of you measuring the 4 sensors, or does that come from the handbook ?

It doesn't matter! The computer looks for differences in signals to determine a locking wheel (deacelerating more quickly than the other three). One sensor would have to be out of range to trigger an ABS fault.

(At least that is the way for F-16 ABS troubleshgooting ;) )

you are right, in the snow ABS helps, i said that, but personally i have almost gotten into accidents because i was on a rough road and when i went to brake hard the abs kicked in and for a second i was left with no brakes, and when they finally did re-engage the stopping was seriously hindered... but you are right, in snow abs works 10x better than pumping the brake (which if done effectively also works well), but i still just don't trust abs, especially while racing...

Well, the dealer did the codes check...and the rear right sensor is dead.....I'll have to find one from a scrap yard because these cost 211$ cad !!!!!!!
