30K Maintenance

How much is the 30K Maintenance from your typical dealer? My car is reaching the big 30,000 and I want to make sure and have all the scheduled maintenance done for it. I changed my oil myself at 28K, so I think I'll tell them to hold off on that and I'll change it later myself. ~$200???

I just got my 30k done yesterday... whole thing cost $380, plus I needed front brakes.. which made it come to more... sigh. :( So if it doesnt mess up the warranty, do what you can yourself.

OK, just got back from the dealer. The dealer's 30K service is a whopping $415!!! I said NO. All I told them to do was everything that is stated in the owner's manual, excluding oil and oil filter (which I'll do at 31K myself, last time I changed it was at 28K).

What they did:
Dealer's "4-Cyl Tuneup"
-Check all lights, horn, and turn signals
-Check wipers and wiper blades
-Visually inspect belts and hoses
-Visually inspect battery and cables
-Check air filter
-Check all fluid levels
-Check tires for wear and pressure
-Visually inspect brakes
-Visually inspect exhaust
-Visually inspect undercarriage

I also told them to replace the air filter, spark plugs, and lube locks & hinges. (As stated by the manual)

Total Cost: $91.74

They told me I needed new front brakes (~$190) and new wiper blades (~$45). I said I'll do those myself...their prices seem WAYYYY to high. I mean come on, $45 for wiper blades? Go down to Pep Boys and buy a set for $20!!!

Where does it state in the manual to change the transmission fluid? On Edmunds.com it says it should be replaced, but I cannot find it anywhere in the manual.

Also, anyone know how to verify if the dealer actually replaced my spark plugs? (I don't trust Buzz Leonard Mazda) I don't know too much under the hood, but I can change my own oil and I know how everything works. I'm assuming you just pull up on the spark plug cables to reveal the spark plug underneath, but is there a special way to take it off? I don't want to damage anything.

ah it sucks to have a dealership you can't trust..

for $90 something I myself would wonder if they did the spark plugs or not too.. dealers usually charge way too much for that.

anyway the air filter you can obviously see if they did (pull it out).. the spark plugs, there's no real way to find out.. you can take off the spark plug wires and the (thing that holds 2 of them on, its not a distributor I dont know what its called)..

its a pain in the a** to change or check spark plugs just for the hell of it.. you need a spark plug socket (3/8" size on a protege I think I used) and an extension (the spark plug is VERY deep in the valve cover) and a ratchet.. the black spark plug wires with the grommet pop out and you have access to the spark plugs deep in there..

anyway I replaced my plugs at about 30,700 miles I think.. and the car felt noticably more peppy.. <also changing the air filter would help>.. if you dont want to pull the plugs (and I don't recommend doing that for kicks) if the 1-2 shift feels ALOT better, you can basically safely say they did it.. there was ALOT of carbon on my old plugs.

good luck,
David

Yes, the 30K maintenance by the dealership is a ripoff. Check out what my dealership has going on...

Ridiculous if you ask me. I will do the same thing as NegatiZE and only have them do the things I want done...

not trying to hate or anything...but you might want to check the dates on posts...this thread is like 5 years old.

'If you can check the plugs to see if they changed them - then why don't you change them yourself?'
