2003 Protege5
 

Has anyone heard anything on the 2003 P5? I haven't been able to find any info as to any changes or possible increase in performance. I did hear one rumour about it coming with 140 HP rather then 130 but couldn't confirm that as of yet.

Well it seems the answer is no HP increase. Just seen the info on the Mazda USA website, the only new thing is a 6-CD changer with the moonroof package and new Laser Blue body paint. Mazda Canada website doesn't show any 2003 model info yet.

I'm not really interested in a 6-CD changer, I would rather get an MP3 Kenwood, anybody change the stock radio on their P5? how does that affect the look of the dash? The stock radio seems to take up quite a bit of real estate.

well for canada, it is the same thing for the usa's 2002.5/2003 changes.

i just pick up a new 2003 protege 5 from compound today. it is a new sport auto trans and new color laser blue. it is a nice color, we expect to be best selling color this year. but the sport auto is little disappoint because we expect more power from the tranny. the shift knob is too big especially in manual. we all like the new headlight black instead of chrome. side makers looks good as well. it worth for $590 increase anyway.

sorry guys, i can't post any pictures. that 's same color as the 2001 mp3. you guys will see it lately because it will be a lot on the road.

2003 arrived in Canada?
 

I went past my dealer yesterday and what did I see on the front lawn? I believe it was a 2003 P5. It was the dark blue colour however it had the new rims, and a side-marker on it. I don't think we got any 2002.5's here in Canada which leads me to believe it's a 2003!

I slowed down to look and that was the only one they had like that, the rest were all 2002 but this one looked really nice. I am going to stop in there after work today and have a closer look.

I am interested in what those new rims look like myself

If you want an audio upgrade that doesn't change the looks. I recommend the JVC KD SH-99 MP3 in dash player. It's a lot easier to use than KENWOOD, and it matches the silver details of the P5/MP3.

What is this about? The 2003 has new headlights?

Yeah, I read that twice too. He said 'headlight black instead of chrome'. That's gotta look sweet on the laser blue. I guess clear black tails is asking too much from OEM.

The headlights look the same as the ones on the ES sedan. For the US it was also part of the 2002.5 refresh.

For the P5? I don't think so. The headlights remained completely unchanged for the "refresh".

The P5 has never had the same lights as any of the sedans, nor does it now.

So again - what is with the "blacked-out" headlights - or is this just a "pot-stirring" rumor?

the headlight housing is chrome 2002. the black housing is new for 2003 model. it is much more sporty looking. i sold a 2003 yellow today because they love it so much.

i pick up my '03 Laser Blue in less than a week...can't wait! :D

oh, and about the headlights, i'm assuming that they look like the ones on the MP3s but with 4 bulbs in them...headlights, highbeams, signals, and one more (sidemarker?)...

my girlfriend just bought her 2003 Protege 5 and she's going to pick it up next week .... from what i know the car is gonna have a 4 speed semi-auto transmission...for the rest i don't know... but if you take a look at mazda's US web site, you will see that there are a few modifications for the car:

Newly styled five-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels

New moonroof & 6-CD Package option

Carpet floor mats standard

Sporty new exterior color: Laser Blue Mica

The one reason I didn't buy a P5 is because they didn't have the lightening blue color. They had that in Japan. It's gonna look good as hell. I just wish they had it sooner. I drive a Civic now. DOH!

i have the 2002.5 if that's what u guys are tlaking about.. it comes with deeper cup holder, side markers and i have that sport shifter (auto and manual) oh and ihave leather =) it's great.
