2003 Protege ES or 2003 Sentra SE-R
 

Hi everyone! Just wanted your opinion on whether to buy a 2003 Protege ES w/ 5-speed or a 2003 Sentra SE-R w/ 5-speed. I know the Protege cost about $1500 less but the Sentra has a lot more power. Also, If I go for the Protege, how much should I pay? Just wanted everyones input. Thanks.:)

for a good estimate on how much the Protege is selling for in your area, go to www.edmunds.com and use their TMV system for a good estimate.

have you driven either car yet? My best advice to you is to BUY THE CAR YOU LIKE TO DRIVE BEST.

Proteges currently have pretty strong incentives (0% for 60 mos.). My guess is that your target should be right at invoice with the rebate OR Invoice minus any cash back rebates in your area.

Can't comment on the Nissan, I don't know much about it. My guess is that you will spend a few thousand extra for a few more horsepower and less capable handling.

I dont know about the Sentra but I work at an Undeclared Mazda Dealer where 2002 Protege ES 5 speeds with abs and moonroof are going for $13,549 plus fees.
I know everyone hates salesman but I am a Mazda enthusiast who became a salesman because of ignorant salesman so please dont hate them all. B/C I have an 02 Pr5 w/ int exh and FS-ze cams, and a 79 rx7 w/ around 400 whp on the bottle. So dont respond like I am some asshole. That is why I am not saying what dealer so it doesn't seem like I'm advertising for free.

I know I've said this before but the Protege wins hands down in quality. The Sentra feels cheap and has a beam rear suspension, all Sentras are also made in Mexico. The Protege is made in Japan and has a four wheel independent suspension. Mazda quality easily equals Honda & Toyota.
I've put 30,000KM on my Pro5 without any warranty issues, concerns or problems.

Ok, I bet Andrew will jump in here anytime, so I'l ltake his side... j/k! The Pro is a great car, and will win hands down in quality and looks, but the Sentra is not far behind. Performance is the Sentra's strong suit, so if you're shopping for a car that will get you to the ski hill that much faster, go for it. If you're looking for something you can actually crank through the twisties and have fun while doing so, the Protege can't be beat...

But isn't he talking about the SE-R and not the regular Sentra?
